WASHINGTON, DC: Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) slammed former president and GOP nominee Donald Trump for his choice of leadership in the swing states, during an interview with ABC's 'This Week' on Sunday, September 22.

Christie's remarks came in light of North Carolina gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson running into controversy over a recent CNN report. The Trump-endorsed Republican has been accused of making racist and sexist remarks on an adult entertainment website over a decade ago.

According to Newsweek, Robinson has denied all allegations against him, and his campaign held his Democratic rival Josh Stein responsible for the allegations.

Chris Christie shares his two cents on Mark Robinson controversy

Chris Christie appeared to be unsurprised by the scandal surrounding Mark Robinson and blamed Donald Trump for his choice of party candidate in the swing state.

"This was predictable. Mark Robinson's tenure in public life has shown erratic, sometimes highly offensive statements over and over again and Donald Trump supported him and endorsed him. In fact, he called him better than Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King Junior on sterioids," Christie said on Sunday.

In March, Trump endorsed Robinson as the governor for the swing state of North Carolina.

A vocal critic of the former president, Christie claimed that Trump was making a Republican victory increasingly difficult in swing states.

"This is the problem for us Republicans. As long as Donald Trump is your recruiting agent for candidates in swing states, we're going to continue to get our rear ends handed to us," said Christie.

"And Mark Robinson is not going to win this race, can't win this race... The fact is this is going to be a tough race no matter what," he shared.

Internet calls Chris Christie 'voice of reason in GOP'

Netizens reacting to Chris Christie's comments on the social media platform X were in agreement with his take. The following tweets demonstrate their views.

"Can’t stand the guy, but he’s not wrong," wrote a user.

"Chris Christie being the voice of reason in the GOP is the clearest sign of where things are now," shared another.

"Donald Trump is a disease for the Republican party," expressed a third.

"I'm not a fan of Christie, but he is 100% on point!" exclaimed a fourth.

"Trump endorses the guaranteed losers!" jibed a fifth.

"Christie makes a solid point! The party needs to rethink its strategy for winning those crucial swing states!" commented yet another.
