SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA: For Marvel Cinematic Universe fans, seeing familiar faces return to the big screen never fails to spark excitement. Chris Evans recently opened up about his highly anticipated return in 'Avengers: Doomsday', sharing how the project rekindled the magic of the franchise's earliest days.

Reflecting on his experience on set alongside returning castmates, Evans admitted that stepping back into the Marvel fold felt strikingly similar to filming 2012's 'The Avengers'. The nostalgic return has given fans a rare behind-the-scenes look at his comeback to the ongoing superhero saga.

Chris Evans says 'Avengers: Doomsday' felt like making 'The Avengers'

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly at San Diego Comic-Con, the 'Captain America' actor candidly discussed what it felt like to jump back into the superhero universe for 'Avengers: Doomsday'.

Evans highlighted how stepping onto the set mirrored his initial experiences when the franchise was first coming together more than a decade ago. "It was almost like going back to 2011 on the first Avengers, because at the beginning of that, you're kind of the new kid on the block and you're excited to even be there," Evans shared.

He admitted that despite his status as an established Hollywood star, working beside iconic cast members still left him starstruck back then, a feeling that unexpectedly returned while filming 'Avengers: Doomsday'.

"I would find myself during that movie watching. You're in the scene, but then you're just like, 'Robert Downey Jr is playing Tony Stark! I have a line,'" he quipped. "And on this one, I felt that a little bit again, just watching you do this thing that I couldn't wait to see."

Interestingly, Evans' character will face Downey Jr's Doctor Doom this time, with the two set to battle each other instead of fighting side by side as Captain America and Tony Stark once did.

For those unaware, Evans made his debut as Steve Rogers in 2011's 'Captain America: The First Avenger' before joining the original superhero team in 2012's 'The Avengers'.

After seemingly concluding his journey in 2019's 'Avengers: Endgame', Evans eventually became open to hearing pitches for a potential comeback once he learned Downey Jr was returning.

Fans are eager to see Evans reprise his legendary role as Steve Rogers, the star-spangled Avenger who anchored four major crossover films: 2012's 'The Avengers', 2015's 'Avengers: Age of Ultron', 2018's 'Avengers: Infinity War', and 2019's 'Avengers: Endgame'.

Rejoining these iconic ensemble films has fueled nostalgia among fans who followed the Infinity Saga from the beginning. The reunion between former MCU stars marks one of the biggest talking points surrounding Marvel's Phase 6 lineup.

While details surrounding the plot of 'Avengers: Doomsday' remain tightly guarded under Marvel's signature secrecy, Evans' enthusiasm underscores the camaraderie that helped define the franchise's peak years.
