Chuck Schumer slams Trump-Xi summit, calls Asia trip a 'total capitulation'

WASHINGTON, DC: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Thursday, October 30, sharply criticized President Donald Trump, accusing him of having “bowed down” to Chinese President Xi Jinping during their high-profile meeting in Asia.
“China has called Donald Trump’s bluff and Donald Trump has folded, leaving American families, and farmers, and small businesses to deal with the wreckage from his blunders,” Schumer said in a fiery statement on the Senate floor.
“Americans, beware: Trump will spend the next few days trying to spin this so-called 'agreement' as a win for America. But that is total bull,” he added.

Chuck Schumer alleges ‘total capitulation’ by Trump
Schumer zeroed in on agriculture and semiconductor technology as some of the main areas where he believes Trump gave away the store.
“On soybeans, this has been a total capitulation. Donald Trump’s trade war has decimated soybean farmers in the US," he claimed.
"China is still buying fewer soybeans this year from the US than before Trump’s trade war. How is that a win for soybean farmers? Trump’s delusion is unbelievable,” Schumer added.
Schumer also alleged that, “Trump is handing out American-made technology like it’s Halloween candy, straight into the hands of our biggest rival."
"China will dominate AI in a few years, and it will have severe consequences for America and for the world. When it comes to chips and Donald Trump, it's not America first. For him, it's China first," the Democrat added.

Trump defends Asia trip as 'spectacular success'
Trump, meanwhile, praised his Asia tour as a “spectacular success,” claiming that it brought in "Trillions of Dollars" and opened doors for future cooperation with Beijing.
He told reporters that his meeting with Xi in Busan was “amazing,” rating it a 12 on a scale of 10.
Trump also added that both leaders have agreed to continue dialogue on trade and technology, with plans for further meetings, including a potential Trump visit to China in April 2026.

Trump says new deals will bring 'prosperity' to Americans
Later in a social media post, Trump called his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping “truly great,” saying that it marked a turning point in US-China relations.
“There is enormous respect between our two countries,” Trump said, adding that several key issues were resolved and others were “very close.”
I had a truly great meeting with President Xi of China. There is enormous respect between our two Countries, and that will only be enhanced with what just took place. We agreed on many things, with others, even of high importance, being very close to resolved. I was extremely…

Trump said Xi had authorized China to begin purchasing “massive amounts” of US soybeans, sorghum, and other agricultural products, a move he said would make "our farmers" very happy.
He also announced that China would continue the free flow of rare earths, critical minerals, and magnets.

On energy, Trump claimed that China had agreed to begin buying American oil and gas, potentially including a “large-scale” deal involving Alaska. He also thanked state and industry leaders for working toward an agreement.
Trump described his Asia trip, which included stops in Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea, as “historic,” claiming that it would deliver “prosperity and security to millions of Americans.”
