GREECE, EUROPE: The CNN panel on 'Inside Politics' couldn’t resist poking fun at the timing and optics surrounding Kimberly Guilfoyle’s nomination as US Ambassador to Greece by President-elect Donald Trump.

The move comes on the heels of Guilfoyle’s reported split from Donald Trump Jr amid speculation about his new relationship with Florida socialite Bettina Anderson, as reported by Mediaite.

Anchor Dana Bash introduced the segment by referring to Guilfoyle as “a lawyer, ex-Fox News host, and fiancee of Trump’s son". She then rolled a series of clips showcasing Guilfoyle’s appearances on the campaign trail supporting the senior Trump. The montage concluded with her now-iconic "The Best! Is Yet! To Come!" declaration from the 2020 Republican National Convention.

“That’s definitely like my top five moments of the 2020 election that last one there,” Bash remarked.

Bash highlighted another clip touching on Guilfoyle's "personal life", adding with a playful note, "And now, I guess they consciously uncoupled!"

Bash joked, "I’m sure Gwyneth (Paltrow) and Chris Martin are not going to like that, that analogy,” referencing the phrase the couple used during their 2014 divorce announcement. "But, look, she is being nominated to go to the other side of the world to be an ambassador.”

Bloomberg columnist Nia-Malika Henderson remarked, "What can you say about Kimberly Guilfoyle? You know, I mean, the president has obviously doled out ambassadorships to folks who are, uh — it’s not in the family way, right? She is not in the family way, but, you know, friends of his.”

Bash responded, "Family adjacent," to which Henderson echoed, "Family adjacent. This is someone who is that, you know, I guess the coupling has uncoupled, and we’ll see Lara Trump might actually be a senator at some point. So it is good to be family adjacent. "

He continued, "It is good to be a donor to Donald Trump, Donald Trump’s campaign. And we have seen that he has filled a lot of these roles with billionaires and people who are loyal to him and close to his family.”

Chief domestic correspondent Phil Mattingly expressed curiosity about how the nomination is being received abroad. “What are the government officials in Greece thinking right now? You’re thinking like, oh, Kimberly Guilfoyle, she’s engaged to the president-elect’s son.”

Henderson quickly chimed in, “But she’s not! It’s awkward!”

Mattingly responded, “Oh, no, maybe she’s not. There’s a lot of stuff going on there that I don’t really know anything about.”
