CNN pulls Gayle King show which paid host massive 12M salary, Internet says 'wasn't worth the spin'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: CNN's ambitious project ‘King Charles’ has failed miserably, with the network having no choice but to end its run.
Gayle King and Charles Barkley were paid handsomely as the channel was losing its viewers over the period.
Gayle King was paid $12M for show that fizzled out six months later
King was reportedly getting a whopping $12 million per year, but it was called off after just six months. During the last episode, both King and Barkley were grateful for working with each other, reported Radar Online.
"I will say this: I have loved working with you and something tells me Charles, this will not be the last time that we’re working together," King told her co-host.
"Call me Gayle," the ex-NBA star quipped. "We will see you the next time whenever we see you. Thanks so much for being with us for the past six months. We had a blast," King added.
CNN staffers called Gayle King's massive salary 'tone-deaf'
A statement was released by CNN’s spokesperson sharing that it was supposed to be a limited series, which was to run until spring 2024.
"King Charles has come to the end of its limited run as we announced when it launched last fall and was a great addition to CNN’s lineup, with the youngest, most affluent, and most diverse P2+ audience in its cable news time period," per THR.
CNN staffers were not happy when the show was announced, and many claimed they were told the network was going through a money crunch.
"Everyone has been told there’s no money, yet they’re managing to scrape up cash to pay Gayle King," a source said, referring to King's $12 million salary. "It’s incredibly tone-deaf, as well as being rude to the hard-working people who’ve been toiling here for years!"
Internet says CNN should have never plugged in ‘King Charles’
Looks like the internet was not a fan of 'King Charles' either and many users expressed relief after CNN pulled the show.
One person wrote, “Worse move CNN has ever made putting those two in prime time and over paying. I almost wish all the good commentators on that network would leave and start their own network!”
“Duh...shouldn't have plugged it in!” the second teased.
Another felt, “Well, there are too many shows in rotation and this show wasn't worth the spin.”
A person criticized King, “About time, Gayle's boring. N the morning show she does all the talking, she forgets there is panel that should have equal time, she is lucky the guys r very smart n can carried the show.”.
“I checked it out once...it was terrible,” a user said.
“Whoever thought this was a good idea should be fired,” another agreed.
A viewer shared the ‘King Charles’ experience, “Watched for 10 minutes. One time.”
