Comer criticizes oversight Democrats for 'cherry-picking' Epstein Island documents for 'headlines'

WASHINGTON, DC: On Wednesday, December 3, the Democrats on the House Oversight Committee, responsible for investigations into Jeffrey Epstein, released a trove of photos and videos said to be “never-before-seen.”

These materials depicted Epstein’s private compound on his island in the US Virgin Islands. Within hours, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer publicly accused Democrats of selectively releasing information to attract media attention.

James Comer’s accusations of selective release

Comer said many of the images and video clips released by Democrats were not new. He claimed the committee’s release was a strategy for headlines.

“Throughout the course of our investigation, Democrats have cherry-picked documents and doctored some of them. Now they are chasing headlines by slapping ‘never-before-seen’ on images and video,” Comer said.

He added that much of the content had been made public months earlier by O’Keefe Media Group, founded by James O’Keefe.

Comer also singled out the committee’s ranking member, Robert Garcia "The only thing ‘never-before-seen’ is such a reckless Ranking Member,” Comer said. “Ranking Member Robert Garcia and Democrats on the Oversight Committee continue to embarrass themselves.”

He continued, “It is odd that Democrats are once again releasing selective information, as they have done before.” Comer referenced previous attempts by Democrats to construct claims against President Donald Trump, calling those efforts collapsed hoaxes

Epstein island images spark controversy

O'Keefe criticized committee Democrats on X for releasing the images with redactions, noting that he had shared similar photos without any information being obscured.



Democrats on the committee released dozens of images and videos from the island, including scenes that reportedly show a room with a dentist’s chair and a chalkboard bearing words like “power,” “deception,” and “appear.” 

Shortly after Comer’s criticisms, the Democratic side posted on X that they were releasing an additional "150+ photos and videos from the island" to the public.

Among the newly released content is a framed photograph of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell meeting the pope, another framed image showing two people’s hands joined, and various works of art.

Other images depict a Samsung computer screen apparently reflecting security-camera angles with only some functional, and a nightstand holding a sleeping mask and a tissue box, among other objects.

In response to Comer’s accusations, a spokesperson for the Oversight Committee’s majority said that more files would be released soon. 

Comer has previously made public thousands of pages of documents from his committee’s investigation into Epstein.
