Cory Booker gives cryptic response when asked if he will be next Democratic leader after marathon speech

WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) played it safe when asked if he sees himself as the next leader of the Democratic Party, Fox News reported on Friday, April 4. It followed after the 55-year-old broke the record for the longest speech delivered on the Senate floor by speaking for 25 hours.
According to the publication, no person has fully claimed leadership of the Democratic Party after former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. As such, Booker was asked if he believed he was ready for leadership as he has been in the Senate for over a decade.
"Some are saying the Democratic Party needs a national leader, are you it?" asked Fox News, to which the politician responded, "I think that, as the great Ella Baker said, we are the leaders we've been looking for. I think the Democratic Party needs everybody to realize it's time for all of us to lead."
"I don't want a Disney vacation of our history! I don't a whitewashed history, I don't want a homogenized history. Tell me the wretched truth about America, because that speaks to our greatness" -- 20 hours into his speech, Cory Booker is spitting absolute 🔥 pic.twitter.com/IXxRaT5vKE

Cory Booker shares his inspiration behind 25-hour speech
Booker began his speech on the evening of March 31 and continued through the next day without taking a break, criticizing the "harm on Americans' safety, financial stability, the core foundations of our democracy" inflicted by President Donald Trump in the first 71 days of his second term. The senator insisted that he was inspired to make the speech because his constituents "were demanding more."
He explained disrupting the Senate votes for an extended period, saying, "We're in a moral moment in our country about what we are going to stand for. So, I wanted to stand with our veterans, I wanted to stand with expecting moms in their healthcare, I want to stand for people who rely on Social Security and a lot of the other things that are happening I think are in the balance right now."

"I learned a lot as an athlete — as most athletes will tell you, what you learn is that you can go further than you think you can," Booker continued.
"You've got more in the tank when you think it's all gone. And those lessons gave me a lot to draw on. And then even when everything is out of the tank and you physically have hit your wall, that your spirit can take over and you can do a little bit more."
When asked if the speech had the impact he intended, the Senator added, "I think this is not a single moment, or even 25 hours. I think it's a longer journey. It was a good day. But as I learned playing college football, just because you had a good play, you get back to the huddle, and you get ready for the next one, and that's what we need to do."
