WASHINGTON, DC: US Senator Cory Booker and Alexis Lewis are officially married after holding two separate ceremonies that reflected the most meaningful places in their lives. The couple announced their engagement in September and shared the news through dual Instagram posts on November 30, revealing that they exchanged vows first in Newark, New Jersey, and days later in Lewis’ hometown of Washington, DC.

Both celebrations were rooted in sentiment, family, and gratitude, the couple said.

Newark ceremony marks start of wedding week

Booker, 56, and Lewis, 38, began their wedding week on Monday, November 24, with an intimate courthouse ceremony in Newark, a city that has shaped much of Booker’s political identity. According to the New York Times, the couple was joined only by their parents, who served as witnesses as they exchanged their first set of vows at the U.S. District Court of the District of New Jersey.

Days later, the couple posted a series of images capturing the moment, including photos from the courthouse steps. “Overflowing with gratitude. We said, ‘I do’ in two places that shaped us, Cory’s beloved Newark and Alexis’ hometown of Washington, DC, first at the courthouse, then with our families,” they wrote. “Hearts full and so grateful."

The Newark ceremony followed the couple’s whirlwind engagement just two months earlier. Booker announced in September that Lewis “is one of the greatest blessings of my life,” saying she had helped him “ground and center my inner life” and discover what it means to build “a nurturing home with someone you love."

He shared a carousel of tropical engagement photos, including one where Lewis proudly displayed her ring as they wore Hawaiian leis. Booker later elaborated on his eagerness to settle down during an October appearance on the I’ve Had It podcast. “I’ve had it with being single. 100%,” he said with a laugh. “Being single is not fun… so I’ve had it with that and I’m very psyched that I’m getting married.” He added that the wedding would happen “before the end of the year, quick."

Washington celebration signifies cross-city union

The second ceremony took place five days later, on Saturday, November 29, in Washington, DC, where Lewis grew up and where many of the couple’s loved ones gathered for a fuller celebration.

Their relationship became public earlier this year, though Booker shared in August, before the announcement, that they had been together for about “a year and a half” after being introduced through friends.
