Viral search theory on Nancy Guthrie's disappearance debunked as family left ‘frozen in grief’
TUCSON, ARIZONA: Viral theories related to Nancy Guthrie's missing case have been discredited by a true crime specialist as the investigation into her disappearance entered its sixth week. The 84-year-old was reported missing on February 1 after being last seen on January 31.
Nancy’s whereabouts have yet to be determined by the cops. Amid the chaos, a number of theories have emerged online. One such theory is about apparent Google searches done before the elderly woman went missing last month.
Online trends show someone searched Nancy Guthrie's address
As per Google Trends information, reported by The US Mirror, someone from Arizona looked for Savannah Guthrie’s mother’s Tucson address on the internet between June 21 and 28. It has also been said that Nancy’s address was searched one more time on January 11.
More such searches apparently occurred between March 1 and March 8, and again between November 30 and December 1.
In addition, searches like “Savannah Guthrie salary” also appeared during the period of December 13 to 20 in Tucson. But true crime expert Brian Entin has debunked them as he reportedly claimed, “We actually checked with Google and they say that those are not legit. So that's why I haven't been reporting on those.”
Nancy Guthrie's family feels 'real sense of helplessness'
This came as Nancy’s family members, including her daughter, 'Today' show host Savannah Guthrie, have been "frozen in their grief" as concrete development in the case is yet to be made.
Tai Mendenhall, a medical family therapist at the University of Minnesota, has said, “They're frozen in their grief. They have a real sense of helplessness.”
“There's no clear resolution from it. We know from research that ambiguous loss is the most psychologically painful kind of loss because of that,” he added.
Savannah Guthrie met her 'Today' colleagues a month into her mother's disappearance
This came after Savannah was seen at the ‘Today’ studio last week. She reportedly visited the studio to meet and thank her colleagues.
In a statement, the show said, “Savannah Guthrie stopped by the studio this morning to be with and thank her TODAY colleagues. While she plans to return to the show on air, she remains focused right now supporting her family and working to help bring Nancy home.”
Also, as per sources who spoke with CNN’s Brian Stelter, Savannah has “every intention of coming back. I don’t know how to come back, but I don’t know how not to. You’re my family. And, I would like to try.”
The 54-year-old even thanked crew members for praying for the return of her mother and “caring about my mom as much as I do.”
