Billie Piper asserts she quit music because she felt like a fake in the industry

According to the Daily Mail, Piper, famous for her role in 'Secret Diary of a Call Girl,' shot to stardom at just 15 years of age with her hit song 'Because We Want To' in 1998, becoming the youngest female artist to top the charts.

Her follow-up single 'Girlfriend' also shot to number one on the chart; apart from this, her song 'She Wants You' peaked at number three as soon as it released.

However, she called it quits on her music career in 2003 -- admitting she felt like a fake in the industry, after releasing just two albums.

Speaking on Friday's 'Heart Breakfast' with host Jamie Theakston, Piper confessed, "I went back into acting because I studied acting before I was signed as a singer and that was my greatest passion. It wasn’t, I felt a bit of a charlatan really, I was a massive fan of music and I could hold a tune, but I never felt like a genuine musician I guess."

Despite Theakston's objections, she explained, "I loved dancing, I loved performing, I loved live shows but I found the industry too taxing towards the end, it was just too much, it was such hard work, I’ve never worked as hard as I did as a child since. I wanted to return to that, I felt a bit out of place in the music industry?"

After returning to acting, Piper landed the role of Rose Tyler in the 2005 reboot of 'Doctor Who' and went on to star in various TV series and movies.

As stated by the Daily Mail, she also ventured into writing, creating shows like 'I Hate Suzie' for Sky Atlantic and directing her own film 'Rare Beasts' in 2019. Her latest role was playing BBC producer Sam McAlister in Netflix's 'Scoop,' a film about Prince Andrew's disastrous Newsnight interview.

Internet users say Billie Piper's music was awful

Many readers online targeted Piper over her talent, with one writing, "Never a great singer or actress."

Another user wrote, "Was never a great singer. Maybe 3 hits but not a singer, more to do with the production."

A user commented, "She turned her back on pop music because she wasn't very good. She obviously saw there was no future in it for her."

Another user commented, "Her songs were for 3-7 year olds - that's why there was no future in music."

A user stated, "Was it because she realised she couldn’t actually sing."

Another user stated, "The real reason is her music was awful."
