MIAMI, FLORIDA: The parents of adult content creator Courtney Clenney, 27, accused of murdering her boyfriend Christian Obumseli, have been arrested in Texas for allegedly tampering with a laptop found at the crime scene.
Kim and Deborah Clenney were taken into custody in Austin on Tuesday, January 30, following a request from Miami police, where their daughter is facing charges for the stabbing death of Obumseli in April 2022.
What are the charges against Courtney Clenney's parents?
The charges against Kim include taking the crypto-trader's computer from the murder scene, accessing it with a password provided by her daughter, and later handing it over to Courtney's defense lawyers. The laptop, originally missed by investigators, reportedly contained only information related to a cryptocurrency exchange.
Despite the seemingly innocuous content, both parents now face allegations of evidence tampering, as per Daily Mail.
Timeline of Courtney Clenney and Christian Obumseli's relationship
Courtney, an adult content creator with over 2 million Instagram followers, has pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder charge and is currently in prison awaiting trial. The couple had been dating for less than two years at the time of Obumseli's tragic death on April 3, 2022.
The Clenney-Obumseli relationship was marked by incidents of domestic disturbances, including a prior arrest for domestic battery in Las Vegas. The couple's move to Miami earlier in the year did not mitigate their tumultuous interactions, leading to multiple complaints from staff and residents at the One Paraiso building, where they resided.
When the fatal stabbing occurred, police responded to an aggravated battery call at their Miami home around 5 pm. Courtney, pictured in a blood-soaked robe and sweatpants, claimed self-defense initially, avoiding immediate charges. However, she was later charged with Obumseli's murder while at a rehab center in Hawaii.
Courtney Clenney had filed a restraining order against Christian Obumseli
Recent revelations include photos from a drunken Aspen photoshoot, two months before the fatal incident, where Courtney appeared with cuts, bruises, and taped-up fingers. While her lawyers assert she acted in self-defense, Obumseli's family and attorneys argue that she was the aggressor in the relationship.
To strengthen her self-defense narrative, Courtney's attorney has requested the exhumation of Obumseli's corpse for examination by a medical examiner. According to Miami Attorney Katherine Fernandez, Courtney claimed to have stabbed her boyfriend in the chest after Obumseli grabbed Courtney's throat.
However, autopsy findings contradicted her account, revealing a deep wound consistent with a close-range stabbing.
Nevertheless, her lawyers claim the subscription-based creator attacked her boyfriend after a "history of abuse" and had filed a restraining order against him just days before the attack.
