Cyndi Lauper’s rapper son Declyn ‘Dex’ Lauper allegedly detained with gun and drugs near NYC shooting
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: According to law enforcement officials, Declyn 'Dex' Lauper, the troublesome son of music legend Cyndi Lauper, was reportedly found in possession of a gun and drugs, following a gunshot in Harlem on Wednesday, February 7.
Dex, 26, was arrested following a shooting in Harlem at around 7.15 pm near 135 W. 112th St, police informed the New York Post. The victim, a 24-year-old guy, was discovered with a gunshot wound to his leg, outside an apartment building.
Dex was placed under arrest by the authorities after he was found near the building with a gun and drugs. The wounded victim was transferred to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital—where his status was classified as stable.

As of Thursday, February 8, Dex was scheduled for an arraignment at Manhattan Criminal Court after being charged with criminal possession of a weapon, per the outlet.
Cyndi Lauper's son Declyn entered a guilty plea in a stolen car case in 2022
Dex Lauper, the son of the late legendary singer who sung 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun', and actor David Thornton, has previously encountered legal issues.
Dex was found in possession of a stolen 2014 Mercedes Benz while at a July 14, 2022, memorial service for an aspiring rapper called Ethan Reyes, who had been fatally stabbed days earlier.
After examining court documents related to the case, the New York Post revealed that the rapper had been taken into custody while he was sitting in the car that was double parked at the intersection of 140th Street and Broadway.
Dex claimed to the police that he was only sitting in a 2014 Mercedes Benz that was double-parked at the time, but it turned out to be stolen.
He entered a guilty plea to disorderly conduct, and a Manhattan judge imposed conditions on him, including five days of community service and a one-year ban from disturbance.
Dex was spotted getting into an SUV that was parked outside the courthouse after the October 2022 court session and consuming marijuana with friends—a drug that is permitted in New York City.
At the time, Dex—who previously collaborated with rapper G-Eazy—told the Post that he was working on music with his famous mother.
"Me and my mother have a couple of songs that we recorded," he told to the outlet at the time, adding that the previous case's conclusion was "definitely a blessing".
Internet mocks Declyn 'Dex' Lauper
Social media users did not waste any time and immediately took to X (formerly Twitter) to ridicule music legend Cyndi Lauper's son's alleged arrest over gun and drugs possession.
One X user slammed and said, "Done, that's the end of my life."
A second one mocked, "A rich kid trying to be “street”."
A third one seethed, "Unless you’re really really coming in hot and hard in the paint no rich white kid will ever be big in hip hop."
"Wow after the first sentence the second sentence really makes a lot of sense," remarked one more.
Another one quipped, "She probably told him.. if you fall I will catch you, I'll be waiting.. Time after Time," alluding to Cyndi Lauper's song 'Time After Time'.
