Daddy Yankee's wife Mireddys Gonzalez files for divorce after nearly 30 years of marriage

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO: Daddy Yankee, born Ramon Luis Ayala Rodriguez, has announced his separation from Mireddys Gonzalez, his wife of nearly 30 years.

The 47-year-old rapper shared the news on Instagram Stories on Monday, December 2, revealing that Gonzalez had filed for divorce after months of trying to salvage their marriage.

Daddy Yankee's divorce announcement

In a statement translated from Spanish, Daddy Yankee wrote, "With a heart full of respect and honesty, I want to share some important news about my personal life."

"After more than two decades of marriage and after many months of trying to save my marriage, which my wife and I share, today my lawyers responded to the divorce petition received from Mireddys," he added.

Acknowledging Gonzalez’s decision, Yankee expressed gratitude for the life they built together.

"I respect Mireddys' decision. I appreciate the time we shared, full of blessings, values, and love, with a beautiful family that will continue to be our priority," he said.

Reflecting on their journey, the rapper noted, "This is not an easy time, but I understand that it is part of my life process. It is time to accept and continue."

The couple, who tied the knot in March 1995, are parents to daughter Jesaaelys, 28, and son Jeremy, 26.

Yankee also has another daughter, Yamilet, from a previous relationship.

Daddy Yankee focused on protecting his family's stability

In his statement, Daddy Yankee emphasized the importance of protecting their family’s stability during this transition.

"Protect my stability, my children, and everything built over so many years," he wrote.

"I deeply thank those who have accompanied us during this journey and I ask that you respect our privacy in this process. I know that this news may surprise many," the 'Gasolina' rapper penned.

He concluded by expressing gratitude for the support of fans and stated that he would not issue further comments, according to People.

In a 2017 interview with Billboard, Yankee described Gonzalez as someone who loved him for who he truly was.

"She’s not in love with DY [Daddy Yankee]. She’s in love with Raymond Ayala. I met her before I was Daddy Yankee, so she’s the right one," he said.

In a 2022 interview with People en Espanol, the 'Dura' singer described his family as "the most beautiful thing" in his life.

"My wife and my children are my treasure, the reason why I work day after day to try to give them a better life, to make a legacy for them," he said at the time.
