Dan Levy admits turning down the role of Ken in 'Barbie' sometimes ‘haunts’ him at night
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Daniel Joseph Levy is sharing his thoughts about missing his chance to act in 'Barbie' as one of the Kens.
The Canadian actor and director is known for his role as David Rose in 'Schitt’s Creek', the Emmy-winning comedy show that he co-created with his father, Eugene Levy.
How did Dan Levy lose the chance to play Ken in 'Barbie' movie?
Levy failed to join the cast as one of the Kens in the 2023 movie 'Barbie' directed by Greta Gerwig which he wanted due to a conflicting schedule.
“Logistically could not make it work despite desperately trying to," he said, according to People.
“So, yeah, I guess I was technically unavailable to do that,” he explained.
He praised Gerwig as one of the best young filmmakers of our time and said he was intrigued by her vision for the 'Barbie' movie.
“I think Greta had such a like wonderfully bizarre and magical aesthetic idea of what that movie was," Levy said.
How does Dan Levy feel about missing his role as a Ken in 'Barbie'?
Despite his love for the movie and wishing he had played in it, Levy was unable to sign himself as a cast of 'Barbie.'
“I would have loved to play in her world. I think she is one of the great, young auteurs of our time," Levy told the publication.
He, however, said he regrets not being able to play in her world, and admits that it sometimes haunts him at night.
“Does it haunt me when I sleep at night? Sometimes. It’s not like it isn’t like one of the biggest movies of all time. That was a tough, that was a tough day,” he recalled.
Dan Levy’s new film 'Good Grief' is now streaming on Netflix
Levy is not letting his disappointment stop him from pursuing his projects. Dan Levy wrote, directed, and starred in 'Good Grief', a new film that is now available on Netflix.
The film, according to the outlet, is a dark comedy about a dysfunctional family that reunites after a tragedy. 'Schitt’s Creek', which he co-created with his father, ran between 2015-2020 and made him a style icon and a meme sensation, but he doesn’t mind being associated with his character, it noted.
