ATLANTA, GEORGIA: The details surrounding the death of a 6-year-old boy who was discovered unresponsive at an Atlanta fire station have been made public through recently released warrants.

24-year-old Dashon Jones is accused of killing Tobias Perkins Jr and abusing children. Jones was already being held at the Fulton County Jail on unrelated charges when the warrants were delivered, according to the police.

Tobias Perkins Jr was found unresponsive at Fire Department

At 11:17 p.m. on March 19, officers were dispatched to an unresponsive child at an Atlanta Fire Department station on Lee Street SW.

First responders took Tobias Perkins Jr to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Family members claim that Jones is the boyfriend of Tobias' mother.

Jones allegedly "hit the child numerous times, causing massive internal bleeding and death," according to arrest warrants that 11Alive News was able to obtain.

According to the warrants obtained by the police, Jones took care of his girlfriend's five children for a considerable amount of time while she attended to a family matter.

Among the kids the defendant was watching over was Tobias. Investigators were informed by Tobias' elder sister that she heard loud noises emanating from the defendant and victim's bedroom.

Then she witnessed Jones taking a "limp Tobias" out of the bedroom and into the bathtub. The grandfather of the victim hurried him to the fire station after discovering the child in the bathtub.

Dashon Jones is detained and not granted bail

Later on, according to the police, Jones was the only adult present in the house when Tobias was hurt.

Tobias had "multiple blunt-force injuries to his head and abdomen," according to an autopsy, and he would have "been down within minutes of the injury" in addition to having significant liver damage.

Cedric Perkins, the boy's cousin, described him as joyful, kind, giving, sharing, lively, and full of life.

“We have so many questions about what happened and how it happened. This tragedy coming upon us so abruptly is devastating. It is devastating, and we need help,” Cedric Perkins stated to WSB-TV.

Cedric went on to say, “There is no taking this back. This hurts. This hurts.”

The family is holding a vigil on March 27. They have created a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral costs. Jones is still detained and has not been granted release.
