‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ trailer breakdown: Cameos to Easter eggs, here’s all there is to know
Top surprises ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ trailer presented to fans
'Deadpool and Wolverine’ will hit theaters in July 2024 and the first trailer of the much-anticipated movie dropped on April 22. The film will see Ryan Reynolds reprise the role of Wade Wilson/Deadpool while Hugh Jackman will be portraying the character of Logan/Wolverine. But apart from this, the trailer also revealed many surprising elements that have left the audience excited. From Dogpool to Alioth, below is the list of all the Easter eggs in the film.
1. Cassandra Nova will be seen as the villain
The long-anticipated trailer of Deadpool's threequel marks the entry of Cassandra Nova into the cinematic universe of Marvel. In the trailer, the lead antagonist, portrayed by Emma Corrin, was seen making fun of both the superheroes, calling them “fools”. In the comics, Nova was introduced as the wicked twin sister of Charles Xavier, better known as Professor X. While in the womb, Xavier discovered his malevolent twin as more of an "anti-self". Xavier destroyed Nova in the womb, resulting in his mother giving birth to a stillborn child. Nevertheless, Nova lived as an ensemble of cells, gradually rebuilding her body until it was whole, and committed her life to murdering her brother.
2. Cassandra Nova displays her powers
Nova, an arch-nemesis of the X-Men, possesses extraordinary psychic talents, including mind control, much like her brother Professor X. She exhibited a wide range of abilities in the trailer, including telekinesis, body switching, phasing, and more, that she never developed at Xavier. In the trailer, she left many fans shocked after controlling Wolverine with her telekinesis.
3. Cassandra Nova uses Ant-man’s skull as her base
The first official Avengers tie-in opens with a sight of Nova emerging from a massive corpse head, which the trailer later reveals is Ant-Man's. This is a strong indication that she was born into an alternate timeline.
4. ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ trailer gives a nod to the first ‘X-Men’ film
The trailer of the threequel starts on a very nostalgic note as it captures Wolverine sitting inside a bar, which resembles the setting of the first ‘X-Men’ film. The evocative shot gives a nod to that OG scene where the audience sees Wolverine's claws for the first time after he wins a cage match.
5. ‘X-Men’ villains seen in the trailer
The nostalgic tone of the trailer doesn't end in the first scene as it later captures a glimpse of some OG ‘X-Men’ villains making a bombastic comeback. In one shot, some deadly villains including Lady Deathstrike, Azazel, Pyro, Toad, and Callisto are seen having a little get-together outside Ant-man's skull, hinting that Nova is leading a team of pruned villains to defeat the two superheroes.
6. Alioth makes a cameo
The bewildering trailer also captured a smokey appearence by the guardian of The Void from 'Loki'. The months-old teaser trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine gave us a sneak peek at the vital part the TVA will play in the film. But the new trailer saw Alioth consuming the area near or around Ant-Man's skull.
7. An inter-dimensional portal opens door for a possible Doctor Strange cameo
A mind-blowing Easter egg was revealed to the audience at the end of the trailer where Wolverine and Deadpool were seen jumping through an interdimensional vortex. The portal apparently hinted at a possible cameo by Doctor Strange or maybe his best buddy Wong. The surprises of the shot didn't end as it also captured the smoke of Alioth.
8. Dogpool seen in the trailer
Dogpool can be seen embracing Deadpool in the trailer but Wolverine does not seem happy with his presence. Only time will tell what important role Dogpool plays in the movie.
