Deidre Hall calls Jo Koy 'complete embarrassment' as Golden Globes host, internet nods in agreement

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Deidre Hall, who has played Dr Marlena Evans on the long-running soap opera ‘Days of Our Lives’ for over 45 years, was not impressed by Jo Koy’s hosting skills at the 2024 Golden Globes.

She took to Facebook on Sunday night, January 7, to express her disdain for the comedian who was hosting the award show for the first time.

Deidre Hall, 76, wrote, “The Globes Globes host, Jo Koy, is a complete embarrassment to himself and the Academy.” Hall advised fans not to watch him by adding the post, “Skip it.”

Koy, 52, tried to lighten up the mood at the star-studded event, which was held at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, by poking fun at some of the celebrities and nominees in attendance.

One of his targets was Taylor Swift, who has been dating Travis Kelce, and created headlines as she attended several of the NFL games watching and supporting Kelce. 

Koy said, “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift."

The camera then showed Swift in the audience who gave Koy a blank stare and sipped her champagne.

Koy later defended his joke as “cute” in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“Aww, man, it was cute. I was just saying it was cute,” he said, adding “I was just saying it’s less cutaways, that’s all.”

He also made fun of the movies ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Barbie’ which were leading the nominations with nine and eight nods respectively.

He said, “’Oppenheimer’ is based on a 721-page Pulitzer prize-winning book about 'The Manhattan Project'and ‘Barbie’ is on a plastic doll with big b*****s.”

Fans react to Deidre Hall's post saying she was 100% right

Hall’s post against Koy sparked a lot of reactions from her fans and followers, the majority of whom agreed with the actress.

“He is so inappropriate for this job. I agree 100%,” wrote a Facebook user in the comments. One more wrote, “I totally agree with you there Deidre Hall. I was just watching it for 10 minutes and got so bored with it that I couldn’t stomach watching anymore of it.”

“I agree. Take a break when he gets on stage," wrote one, “Oh my! Will not watch it," added another.

However, some praised Koy’s performance and humor, saying,

“He is an amazing stand up comedian ! Watch his specials on Netflix and you’ll see.

"I don’t think Hollywood has a sense of humor anymore, unless they are making fun of Trump.”
