Demi Lovato and Drew Barrymore recall their troubling experiences with drugs as child stars
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Demi Lovato and Drew Barrymore recently reflected on their troubling experiences as child stars, including being given "substances" at the young age, in a new bombshell documentary.
'Child Star', which Lovato, who uses they/them pronouns, co-directed with Nicola Marsh, is currently streaming exclusively on Hulu. The docu-fim also features interviews with JoJo Siwa, Christina Ricci, Kenan Thompson, and Raven-Symone, among others.
Drew Barrymore recalls 'getting high' at 10
At one moment in the documentary, the Demi Lovato says, "It's hard to say that you don't blame other people when other people may have been giving you substances as a kid," as per Entertainment Weekly.
The 32-year-old singer went on to ask Barrymore, "How old were you when you were first given something?"
"I used to get high with my mom's friend at like 10. And I thought she was so cool, and she would give weed to me and her son," responded the 49-year-old actress, whose Hollywood career began when she was just eleven months old.
Lovato then stated, "It's hard to not blame someone else when you're ten years old."
However, the 'ET the Extra-Terrestrial' star remarked, "Those were all my actions, those were my reactions. That was my coping mechanism. I'm very accountable, I don't blame other people."
She also mentioned, "Having a 10-year-old daughter now, I just, it's unfathomable. But that's just how I grew up."
Demi Lovato didn't choose to enter rehab
'Child Star' is Demi Lovato’s fourth documentary that showcases their tumultuous childhood and the struggles of being in the spotlight at young age.
They earlier documentaries include ‘Demi Lovato: Stay Strong’ (2012), ‘Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated’ (2017), and ‘Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil’ (2021).
Lovato fuether revealed in the documentary, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, how they were forced to go to rehab in 2010.
The 'Heart Attack' singer recalled, "I had punched my backup dancer while on tour in South America. I got kicked off the tour basically."
"And I'm on my way home, and we have a layover in Dallas, and I'm like, 'When do we land in LA?' It turns out that they had set up for me to go to treatment in a suburb of Chicago. It wasn't like a situation where it was like I came to the conclusion that I needed help," added Lovato.
