Dennis Quaid backs Spencer Pratt for LA mayor as Lisa Rinna slams reality star politics
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dennis Quaid has joined a growing list of celebrities weighing in on Spencer Pratt’s bid for Los Angeles mayor, backing the reality television personality amid a broader debate over reality stars entering politics.
The 72-year-old actor offered his support during a public appearance and later pushed back when questioned about his stance. The exchange comes as Pratt’s campaign continues to draw attention and criticism from figures in entertainment, including Lisa Rinna.

Quaid voiced his support for Spencer Pratt while accepting the 2026 Patriot Ally Award on May 23, keeping his message short but direct.
“Go Spencer Pratt,” he said.
Actor pushes back on questions about endorsement
When Fox News Digital asked Quaid to explain his support for Pratt, he responded bluntly.
“Why? What are you talking about? Why? Just look around, man.”
Pratt has announced his candidacy for Los Angeles mayor, positioning himself as a challenger to Mayor Karen Bass, who has held office since 2022.
Dennis Quaid criticizes Karen Bass over Palisades wildfire response
Although Quaid did not lay out a detailed political rationale for endorsing Pratt, he has previously criticized Bass over her handling of the 2025 Palisades wildfires.
The ‘Parent Trap’ actor said he had to evacuate during the fires, adding that while his Brentwood home was not damaged, a close friend lost multiple multimillion-dollar properties.
“Mayor Bass had five days warning about what could be record Santa Ana winds, and she chose to go to Ghana anyway,” he said, adding, “There was no evacuation plan. That makes me wonder about the next earthquake, the next mudslides that are going to happen. I'm really in favor of a recall.”
Lisa Rinna rejects reality star politics in mayoral race
Lisa Rinna has pushed back against Pratt’s political ambitions, saying she would not support “a reality star” for public office.
She said, “we’ve already done that. We’re not going to do that again,” while also acknowledging her personal fondness for Pratt.
Rinna added, “I’m a reality person. You wouldn’t want me as mayor, really. I mean, let’s just face it, I love him. I think he’s amazing. I just think we did that.”
Spencer Pratt responds to criticism on X and Fox News interview
Pratt responded directly to criticism on X, writing, “Hey Lisa, if you're against me because I was on a TV show in my 20's, wait til you learn what Karen Bass was doing in her 20's…”
He also defended his background during a Fox 11 interview, saying, “[Bass] was in Cuba learning how to make bombs with the people that would then go bomb Capitol Hill. So, if we're looking at backgrounds, I'm pretty proud of what I was doing at 20 on reality television.”

Pratt added, “Even though I may not have been the most likable character, it was still TV versus trying to destroy America and going to Cuba 20 times and praising Fidel Castro.”
