Dennis Quaid gets emotional as he says many of his friends lost their homes in LA fire
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dennis Quaid shared he was forcefully evacuated from his Brentwood home during the devastating Los Angeles fires.
He shared he had been lucky to have his home when there were so many of his friends who lost their homes.
Dennis Quaid says his agent and friend lost two houses each in the fire
Dennis Quaid, 70, described his situation as fortunate compared to others, explaining that his agent and another close friend lost their homes in fires.
"We've had it lucky. I have so many friends who’ve lost," Quaid said. "My agent, he lost both of his houses," he added.
He said, "Another good friend in the Palisades who had just moved into a house and he was renting the other lost both of ‘em."
"We’re fighting as hard as we can to save our city. Gosh, I never thought I’d say that," Quaid said during an interview with NBC.
The 'Postcards from the Edge' actor returned to his home after the evacuation to handle essential tasks.
“Just in case, I had to shut off the gas and all those little things you don’t think of, and just thought maybe I could be there and put a hose on the roof if the embers start coming over,” he said, according to Daily Mail.
Firefighting efforts impress Dennis Quaid
The catastrophic blazes, fueled by strong windstorms beginning Tuesday, January 7, have destroyed thousands of structures and claimed at least 11 lives.
More than 130,000 residents were ordered to evacuate as authorities deployed K-9 units to search for human remains in the ruins.
Celebrity homes in the Pacific Palisades, including those of Paris Hilton, Jeff Bridges, Anthony Hopkins, and others, were consumed by the fire.

Quaid recalled waking up to a massive plume of smoke and how the fire came within 150 yards of his home.
He expressed gratitude for the firefighters and helicopter pilots working tirelessly to protect the city.
“Those helicopter pilots are, they’re incredible, what they do. And I can’t say enough about the firefighters and the first responders in this town,” Quaid said.

Dennis Quaid also reflected on the harrowing experience, noting how quickly reality can change.
Quaid joined other celebrities criticizing Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for reducing the fire department’s budget last year
The actor described the ongoing crisis as a severe blow to the community and reiterated the importance of lending support to emergency responders.
"It’s been a really big lesson...our experience of reality can change in a moment," Quaid said, who lives with his wife, Laura Savoie.
