LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Veteran actor Denzel Washington has planned to retire from films after completing a slew of acting projects, including 'Black Panther 3'.

In a recent interview with 'Today', Washington revealed that he is in talks with directors Steve McQueen and Ryan Coogler for future projects, according to Business Insider.



 

Denzel Washington set to retire from acting after completing few films

Denzel Washington said during the interview on Monday, November 11, "I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make. Probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done."

The actor continued, "I’ve played Othello at 22, I’m about to play Othello at 70. After that I’m playing Hannibal. After that I’ve been talking with Steve McQueen about a film. After that Ryan Coogler’s writing a part for me in the next 'Black Panther.'"

Washington added, "After that I’m going to do the film ‘Othello.’ After that I’m going to do ‘King Lear.’ After that I’m going to retire."

The actor is currently focused on promoting 'Gladiator II', the sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 action movie. Washington portrays former slave and Lucius’ mentor, Macrinus, according to the New York Post.

Denzel Washington teased his possible retirement in August

Denzel Washington told Empire Magazine in August 2024, "There are very few films left for me to make that I’m interested in. I have to be inspired by the filmmaker, and I was tremendously inspired by Ridley."



 

Washington and Ridley previously worked together on the 2007 film 'American Gangster'. The actor said, "We had a great go-round the first go-round [on ‘American Gangster’], and here we are. He’s engaged. He’s excited about life and his next film. He’s an inspiration. We should all want to feel like that at 86."
