Derek Hough asks for prayers and positivity from fans after wife Hayley Erbert suffers medical emergency

WASHINGTON, DC: Derek Hough’s wife Hayley Erbert, 29, had a serious health scare on Wednesday night, December 6, in Washington DC.

The 'Dancing with the Stars' alum had just finished his tour performance when Erbert became disoriented and needed urgent surgery.

Hayley Erbert suffered 'cranial hematoma'

Hough shared the news on Instagram, saying, “At the end of last night’s tour performance in Washington DC, my wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital.

He said, "She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniotomy," adding "She is in stable condition.”

A craniotomy is a type of surgery that removes a part of the skull to relieve pressure on the brain, according to Cedars-Sinai.

Hough thanked the first responders and medical personnel who cared for his wife and asked for prayers and positivity from his fans.

Celebrities and fans show support to Hayley Erbert following scary health emergency 

Many celebrities commented on Hough’s post, sending their love and well wishes to the couple. Peta Murgatroyd wrote, “Omg Derek. Please send her our love!!” and Bobby Berk posted, “You two are in my thoughts, my friend. Sending healing energy her way ”

Heidi D’Amelio was “sending so much love to you both! Love and hugs” and Josh Groban shared, “Oh my friend sending love and keeping her in our thoughts for a full recovery. So scary.” Many more comments kept coming in. 

Fans also flooded in with prayers and messages of support on social media. One fan wrote, “I was in DC last night. The show was absolutely amazing… Hayley was fabulous…

"I am so sorry this happened. We were sad to not see her at the end of the show. I had a feeling something happened… Many prayers and sending love.”

Another wrote, “On my knees in prayer Hayley is so strong! We love you guys so much and are here for you always!”

Derek Hough tied the knot with Hayley Erbert in August

Derek and Hayley tied the knot in Monterey County, California in August. They had a beautiful wedding in a redwood forest, surrounded by nature and their loved ones.

"We’re in a redwood forest, but we got married right in front of this mother tree that’s surrounded by all these smaller trees,” Erbert told People at the time.

“They drop all the seeds, and it plants kind of like an army of children to protect the mother. The symbolism of it was beautiful. We’re here, planting our seeds to grow our family," he added. They also had a welcome party at a cliffside estate in Carmel, which Hough described as “a fairytale.”
