Derek Hough says his wife Hayley Erbert is undergoing surgery to 'replace a large portion of her skull'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Derek Hough is counting on his prayers as his wife Hayley Erbert undergoes a second brain surgery on Wednesday, December 20.

The ‘Dancing With the Stars’ judge shared with his followers on Instagram Story. “I strongly believe all the prayers that have been sent with the intention and love of Hayley’s recovery has helped so much," he said.

Derek Hough thanks fans for their constant support 

He added, “I can’t thank you all enough. She is going in for surgery this morning to replace a large portion of her skull that was removed during her craniectomy.”

“Please keep her in your prayers as I believe the collective energy helped her through these past few weeks. We love you. We thank you," he continued.

Erbert’s health deteriorated after a December 6 Symphony of Dance performance for “a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, "An intracranial hematoma is a collection of blood within the brain tissue or underneath the skull, which then presses on the brain."

"A craniectomy is a neurosurgical procedure that involves removing a portion of the skull in order to relieve pressure on the brain," as per the University of Rochester Medical Medical Center.

Hayley Erbert's sister Julianne Hough seeks blessings from followers

Amid her health struggle, actress’ sister Julianne Hough, earlier asked Instagram users “please pray and send all [their] love, healing and light.”

While Derek wrote on his Instagram post previously, “It’s been a profound reminder of how fragile life can be and how quickly things can change. But, it has also shown us the incredible strength and resilience that lies within us and the power of having a supportive community around us.”

Hough and Erbert got married in August, after dating for seven years, reports PageSix.

The choreographer’s friend Troy Williams of Simply Troy Lifestyle + Events talked about the special moment. “Derek surprised her and got her out of the house for the afternoon. He wanted their home transformed,” he told People.

“They’re an adventurous couple and have seen such big moments, but their home is their sanctuary and it’s where they fell even more in love," he added.

Troy continued, “After she said ‘yes,’ it was just everything — such a special, beautiful moment and just so them.”
