LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Derek Hough recently opened up on his wife Hayley Erbert's health condition and shared that they have no plans for the holiday season as she is currently recovering from her "emergency craniectomy."

"Her recovery process has been nothing short of a miracle," wrote the 38-year-old 'Dancing with the Stars' judge in an Instagram update on Friday, December 16.

Speaking about further procedures involved in her recovery, Hough shared that Erbert will need a skull implant surgery in the next few weeks.

The implant will “replace the piece [of the skull] that was removed during the craniectomy," Hough explained.

"It will restore the skull to its natural shape and protect the brain from injury," he wrote.

Hough expressed his gratitude to fans and followers for their support amid Erbert's health scare.

"The past week has been a challenging journey for us due to a life-threatening event that suddenly came into our lives," the choreographer continued.

"It was a time filled with uncertainty and fear, going from living our dreams onstage to a nightmare in an instant," he added.

The couple is "filled with hope and relief" following the latest health update, according to People.

The health scare has become "a profound reminder of how fragile life can be and how quickly things can change," Hough wrote.

"But, it has also shown us the incredible strength and resilience that lies within us and the power of having a supportive community around us," he wrote.

"We cannot express enough gratitude to each of you for your unwavering support, messages, prayers and undeniable loving energy we have both felt during this time," he said.

"While this isn’t the holiday season either of us envisioned, it’s one that we’re incredibly grateful to have. We look forward to cherishing these moments with a deeper appreciation for life and the people in it," the TV personality concluded.

Following their Symphony of Dance tour stop in Washington, Erbert suffered cranial hematoma symptoms. Her hospitalization on December 7 was announced by Hough who updated at the time that she was rushed into emergency surgery.

 

"At the end of last night’s tour performance in Washington, DC, my wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital," Hough updated at the time.

"She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy. She is in stable condition," he added.
