As fans eagerly anticipated an announcement, leading to assumptions that Deryck Whibley could be stepping in as the band's new lead singer.

However, Whibley the Sum 41 icon quickly put these rumors to rest.

"I feel the need to dispel some current rumours. It's been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band," he said in an Instagram post.

"But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter," the 90s rock icon continued.

Revealing his plans, Whibley said, "I have my own ‘tour and book’ announcement that I will now move to the end of the week, ahead of our US tour."

"I do look forward to seeing whatever both these amazing bands do in the future," he added.

The rumours began circulating after Whibley had instructed American fans to "tune in" for an announcement on Wednesday morning, coinciding with the countdown on Linkin Park's site, forcing the vocalist to clarify his stance, according to Mirror.

Linkin Park's uncertain future

Linkin Park has been on hiatus since the tragic death of Chester Bennington in 2017.

Despite this, there have been persistent rumours that the band might reunite with original members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, and Dave Farrell.

However, it remains unclear if and when a reunion tour will take place.

The band's took to Instagram to display that the countdown which ended on August 28 started counting back up and captioned, "It's only a matter of time."

Recent speculation also suggested that a female singer might join the lineup, but Evanescence’s Amy Lee denied any involvement.

Speaking to Canada’s iHeart Radio, Lee said, “That is an incredible compliment, have not heard that. No, I have not been contacted by [Linkin Park] or anything like that. But [I’m a] huge fan [and] feel like our worlds, our fanbases are a lot of the same people.”
