NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A recent post by the New York City Sanitation Department on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) about disposing of sofas is being considered as a jibe for Sen JD Vance (R-Ohio) by netizens, in light of swirling rumors about the GOP vice presidential candidate.

"Have a couch you just...don't love anymore?" the agency wrote in a tweet on Sunday, July 28. "Set it out the night before your TRASH ONLY (not recycling) collection day."

The post also included the image of a couch with questionable stain marks in some places.

Netizens were quick to relate the tweet with the circling rumor that former president Donald Trump's running mate had sex with his own couch.

Are JD Vance's couch rumors true?

According to HuffPost, it has been widely claimed that JD Vance has had sex with his couch and described the experience in his bestselling memoir, 'Hillbilly Elegy'. However, the claim happens to be an urban legend with no basis in reality.

Several news organizations have reportedly reviewed the book and failed to come up with any passage that validates the rumor haunting the Senator.

However, while this false claim has clearly been conjured up, it has not stopped the jokes on Vance.

It was incorporated by 'Late Show' host Stephen Colbert in his monologue, and used by Illinois Gov JB Pritzker to troll Vance during an appearance on 'This Week'.

Some have even used the subtler approach, such as Democratic Sens Chris Murphy and Brian Schatz, who spoke about Vance while sitting on a couch last week.

While the NY Sanitation Department has not clarified if the post was intended to troll Vance, the seemingly innocent instructional post has taken on a life of its own with social media users speculating it has something to do with the Senator considering the timing of it all.

Internet gets creative while reacting to NYC Sanitation Department's post

Social media users strongly believed that the sofa disposal post was shared by the Sanitation Department keeping the rumor about JD Vance in mind, and wasted no time to jump in with hilarious takes on their own. The following examples demonstrate the mood.

"Gotta love your timing with this one," wrote a user.

"Good to have adVance notice," jibed another.

"Superior trolling! A++ 🤣🤣" shared a third.

A fourth commented, "JD Vance: watch who you’re calling TRASH!!"

"Do you take them all to @JDVance?" mockingly inquired a fifth.

"Sorry, J.D. Vance. The love is no longer there... 💔" commented another.

"Such a timely reminder," quipped a seventh.

"NYC Sanitation Dept takes no prisoners," retweeted a user.
