WASHINGTON, DC: Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Dean Phillips expressed his openness to become Republican White House hopeful Nikki Haley's running mate on a "unity ticket" against the leading contenders President Joe Biden and his predecessor Donald Trump, reported Mediaite.

On Thursday, February 22, radio host Chad Hartman asked the Minnesota lawmaker whether he would vote for the former UN ambassador over Biden if she somehow becomes the GOP presidential nominee.

"Wouldn't all your listeners be more compelled by maybe Nikki Haley and Dean Phillips getting together on a unity ticket and actually doing for the first time, perhaps in our country's history, what most Americans really want, which is cooperation, collaboration, participation, decency, common sense, leadership?" replied Phillips.

Nevertheless, he denied any chances of Haley's nomination and took a swipe at the Democratic party, saying they "want to coronate Joe Biden."

Despite his extremely poor performance at the Democratic primaries, Phillips has not exited the race. Similarly, the former South Carolina Governor continues running against Trump despite his dominance in polls and landslide victories in completed party caucuses and primaries.

Dean Phillips calls for an alternative to Joe Biden and Donald Trump

Hartman questioned Phillips whether he would run as Haley's VP if she ran as an independent candidate. Surprisingly, the Congressman did not deny the possibility by stating, "I think it's a conversation Ambassador Haley and I should have if that's what this comes down to."

Underscoring the high chances of Trump winning the 2024 presidential election if Biden is the Democratic nominee, Philps said, "Any American who opposes that should celebrate, encourage, and inspire an alternative that can actually win and lead our country in the way that people want, and I think anybody, including myself, should keep open minds and hearts about that."

The White House hopeful, expecting Haley to share the same perception, stated that the US should have an administration of a "bipartisan ticket that restores faith in government and most importantly demonstrates to the world, to the world, that America can work together and restore its extraordinary brand around the entire world."

The former South Carolina Governor had multiple times expressed her opposition to Biden and Trump's re-election bid, pointing fingers at their age and mental acuity, which could hinder their presidential duties.

Phillips, who lost to Biden in the South Carolina primary, securing only 2% of the votes, said an administration based on a bipartisan ticket was his "aspiration."
