PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Former President Donald Trump recently stirred controversy by accusing President Joe Biden of being "higher than a kite" during his State of the Union address last month.

Trump made these remarks during a radio interview with conservative broadcaster Hugh Hewitt, where he also demanded drug tests for all future presidential debates.

In the interview, Trump expressed his disbelief at Biden's performance, stating, "I don't know what he was using, but that was not, hey, he was higher than a kite, and by the way, it was the worst address I've ever seen."

“I watched the State of the Union, he was all jacked up at the beginning, by the end he was fading fast,” Trump continued. “There's something going on there.”

Trump even linked the discovery of a baggie of cocaine in the White House in July 2023 to Biden's State of the Union address performance.

“I think what happened, you know that white stuff, that they happened to find, which happened to be cocaine at the White House, I don't know,” he said, suggesting, "I think something is going on there."

However, it's important to note that there was no evidence tying the cocaine found in the White House to President Biden or his administration. Investigators concluded that the drugs were likely left behind by a visitor or tourist.

The former president once again challenged his successor to a presidential debate “anytime” and “anywhere." However, he insisted that both candidates must be drug tested before they get up on stage. “I think debates, with him at least, should be drug tested,” Trump concluded.

Past allegations

This isn't the first time Trump has accused Biden of using drugs. Similar allegations were made in the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election.

“Go back and watch his performances in some of those debates,” Trump said in August 2020. “He didn't know where he was. And all of a sudden, he was not good, he was normal, and I don't understand how.”

“I don't know if there is or not, but somebody said to me: He must be on drugs,” he added. “I don't know if that's true or not, but I'm asking for a drug test. Both candidates. Me, too. I take an aspirin a day.”

The recent accusations by Trump have reignited discussions about Biden's health and performance.

A psychiatrist, Dr Carole Lieberman, weighed in on Biden's State of the Union address, suggesting that his aggressive demeanor and rapid speech could be indicative of stimulant use to mask cognitive decline.

“If you look at how Joe Biden usually is — slow and stumbling — compared to how he was during the State of the Union — fiery and angry — these are signs that are typical for someone taking Adderall or any amphetamine,” she told the Washington Times.

Adderall, generally used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is sometimes also used to treat cognitive diseases such as Alzheimer’s or dementia.

“It’s given to focus someone’s attention so if you give it to someone who is not focused and give it to them ahead of a big event like the State of the Union, it will improve their focus,” Lieberman said of Adderall. “But it’s treating the symptoms rather than boosting the brain and it’s addictive so it’s dangerous.”

Social media reactions

Many on social media nodded in agreement with Trump's call for drug tests, as well as his assertion that Biden was “higher than a kite” during his SOTU address.

"Been saying this for years…..I would love to see a toxicology report from one of his 'good' days," one posted on X.

"Yup, they both should be drug tested and put in front of the world to debate. No prompters. May the least vegetable win," another wrote.

"They should. We deserve to know what drugs the president of the free world is on," a comment read.

"There is little debate that Joe is using drugs publicly and likely taking more substances to bring him back down after he is finished," someone else offered.

"Probably sharing Hunter’s stash in addition to excessive Geritol!" another quipped.
