MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Donald Trump has described his hush money trial and subsequent criminal conviction as "very hard" on his wife, the former First Lady Melania Trump.

Recently, a jury found Trump guilty of falsifying business records to hide hush-money payments to former adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign.

This verdict marks him as the first former US president to be criminally convicted. He has consistently denounced the trial as "rigged" and "politically motivated".

In a recent interview, Trump declared that his victory in the forthcoming November US election would serve as his "revenge".

He intends to challenge the conviction as he is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11.

In an interview on Sunday, June 2, Trump claimed that his wife Melania has been especially affected by his legal battle in New York, BBC reported.

Graphic details of the alleged sexual encounter between Trump and Daniels were revealed during the trial.

The details included Daniels claiming that Trump did not wear protection during their sexual encounter, and that Trump greeted her in silk pajamas at his hotel suite. Daniels further asserted in her testimony that Trump and wife Melania sleep on separate beds.

In the interview, Trump remarked about Melania, "She's fine, but I think it's very hard for her." He continued, "In many ways, it's tougher on them [his family] than it is me."

Although it is not likely, Trump could spend up to four years in prison for each of the 34 felonies he was found guilty of under New York law.

During his interview, Trump said he is "okay with" going to jail, but he is "not sure the public would stand for it" if it came to that.

"I think it would be tough for the public to take," he said. "You know, at a certain point there's a breaking point."

Donald Trump claims 'it's very difficult' for his wife to 'listen to the stuff all the time'

Barron, his youngest son, and his wife Melania Trump were conspicuously absent from the courtroom during the five-week trial. According to Trump, his family suffered more from the trial and conviction than he did, Bondiewithlove reported.

He remarked, "I have a wonderful wife who has to listen to this stuff all the time. I think it’s very difficult for her, you know she has to read all this s**t.”

Trump mentioned that his son Barron, 18, who recently graduated from Oxbridge Academy, is concentrating on his future.

"He is incredible. He is tall, handsome, and a very good student. He applied to college and gets in everywhere he goes, you know? He is very sought after from this point of view, he is a very intelligent guy,” declared the ex-president.

“He’s a very big guy and he’s a great kid. He’s cool. He’s pretty cool, I’ll tell you that."

Stormy Daniels wants Donald Trump to be sentenced to jail

The woman at the center of the New York case, Stormy Daniels, stated in another interview that was released over the weekend that she was "shocked" by how quickly the jury reached a verdict.

As previously reported, Daniels stated that she thought Trump "should be sentenced to jail and some community service working for the less fortunate" in her first public remarks following the conviction.

"Or being the volunteer punching bag at a women's shelter," she added.

Daniels stated that her case is "not over" despite the conviction. She declared, "It's never going to be over for me."

Internet shows no sympathy for Donald Trump and his wife

Social media users were quite ruthless in their comments while reacting to the impact of Donald Trump's hush money trial on his family.

A person wrote, "Surely knowing her husband had sex with a porn star, lied about it, paid to cover it up, faked business records about it and has been found guilty of 34 felonies must be very hard on wife Melania."

Another user added, "Who cares she knows what he is. She only cares about money! I don't feel sorry for either of them. They brought this on themselves."

The third commentator claimed, "What was hard on Melania was her husband’s actions being described in public."

"She knew what she was getting into when she married him. I have no sympathy for her," one said.
