WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump came to the defense of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett while speaking with reporters on board Air Force One on Sunday, March 9, reported Newsweek.

Barrett was one of the three conservative judges nominated to the SCOTUS by Trump during his first presidency. However, she voted against his current administration's attempt to freeze nearly $2 billion in foreign aid, earning her the ire of MAGA supporters.

A tweet on social media shows Trump responding to being asked about Barrett on the bench. You can watch the video here.

Donald Trump's opinion of Justice Amy Coney Barrett

Donald Trump was returning from Palm Beach to Washington on Sunday when a reporter asked him if he regretted appointing Justice Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court because of her rulings against his efforts.

"Your supporters are attacking SCOTUS Justice Amy Coney Barrett. You put her on the bench. They’re saying, 'She’s a DEI hire.' Do you regret putting her on the bench?” questioned the journalist.

However, the 78-year-old commander-in-chief stood by his choice, saying, "Look, she’s a very good woman. She’s very smart, and I don’t know about people attacking her, I really don’t know. I think she’s a very good woman. She’s very smart."

Justice Amy Coney Barrett's rulings against Donald Trump

Justice Amy Coney Barrett has sided with her liberal colleagues on the Supreme Court bench multiple times since being appointed by Trump in 2020. She voted to uphold a lower court ruling that the Trump administration must release the foreign aid because it was tied to existing USAID contracts.

Prior to that, she also sided with declining Trump's request to immediately fire the head of the Office of Special Counsel. At the start of 2025, Barrett voted in line with progressive members of the bench against dismissing the sentencing of Trump in the New York hush money trial of 2024.

However, she did agree with providing Trump sweeping presidential immunity, but stated nonetheless in her ruling, "A president facing prosecution may challenge the constitutionality of a criminal statute as applied to official acts alleged in the indictment. If that challenge fails, however, he must stand trial."

After Trump defended Barrett and claimed he was unaware of any backlash she was facing from his supporters, netizens took to Facebook to express their opinion on the same.

"Maga turns on anyone that disagrees with them!" exclaimed one Facebook user.

"He's pretty unaware of a lot of things for being the president. Maybe if he actually attended the briefings instead of golfing he might be more enlightened," stated another.

"Her ruling was sound. She doesn’t serve the President. She’s independent and that’s good," one person commented.

"Every time he claims to not know anything, while that is extremely believable, he is lying," added another.

"He's only saying that because he still wants her to vote his way," an individual remarked.
