WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump broke his silence on Truth Social Thursday, July 4, criticizing political adversaries and journalists, while President Joe Biden issued a tongue-in-cheek reminder of a peculiar comment once made by the former president in 2019.

Biden's reminder arrives amidst backlash for a subpar debate performance, which has sparked concerns about his mental acuity—concerns that echo those raised when Trump issued warnings about battery-powered boat shark attacks and lauded the fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter as a "wonderful man."

Donald Trump's 2019 speech claimed Continental Army seized British airports

"Five years ago today," the Biden-Harris campaign wrote on X, "a confused Trump claimed that George Washington’s army 'took over the airports' during the Revolutionary War in 1775."

In his 2019 'Salute to America' speech, then-President Trump made the erroneous claim that the Continental Army seized British airports during a time when the fastest modes of transportation were horses and boats.

The amiable July 4th reminder sparked considerable joy among Biden's supporters as they delighted in recalling the peculiar remark, which Trump subsequently attributed to a malfunctioning teleprompter and inclement weather.

Internet mocks Donald Trump for his erroneous claim

President Joe Biden's reminder of Donald Trump's erroneous comment evoked an array of responses on social media.

A user wrote, "Ah, yes the 1781 #AirportStorming of the Yorktown Airport that saw the defeat of Cornwallis. A seminal moment in history… in an alternative Trump universe that bangs 'biggly' between his orange stained ears and below the forever 'sun' of his hairspray abused hair."

Another user added, "Trump is reading from a teleprompter and says this in his speech regarding the Revolutionary War in 1775. “Our army maned the air” and took over the Airports. Why has this never been discussed on CNN lately? If at all."

One commentator wrote, "Hey Republicans, replace him."

"The airports in 1775? Did they successfully overtake the control towers?" a user questioned with laughing emojis.

Another person blasted Trump saying, "I believe the teleprompter read ramparts but he said airport's. Obviously misread the teleprompter but just kept going. I don't think he understands or cares what he says."

"They could take over the airports because they had planes that ran on solar energy, and it was cloudy," a user remarked.
