NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former President Donald Trump joined co-hosts Pete Hegseth, Will Cain and Rachel Campos-Duffy for an interview after his criminal hush money trial conviction on the June 2 episode of 'Fox & Friends.'

In addition to reflecting on the case, the presumptive GOP nominee discussed his roadmap moving forward with the reelection campaign and opened up about his criteria for choosing a running mate for the 2024 general election.

As Trump is yet to announce his choice of candidate for Vice President, co-host Cain directly asked the businessman what he was searching for in his running mate.

"So, you always have to say, and I mean it, that if something happens to the President, you have to get somebody who can be a good President," responded Trump. "Then the second thing I want is somebody who can, selfishly, help me to get elected."

As the co-hosts chuckled at Trump's quip, he continued, "But typically, if you look over the years, look back over a hundred years, it is almost never that a Vice President helps - I mean you are out there all by yourself, you really are. There's a day or two of hoopla, then it goes back..."

"So I would say somebody you get along with, somebody that can help you get elected, ... and first is somebody that can be a very good President," he added.

Donald Trump's take on Presidential debates

With the first presidential debate on June 27, co-host Hegseth inquired about Trump's strategy for the event during the interview. "Debates are interesting because I had never debated before and then I debated a lot in 2016 ... and it's been good for me, I think I win every debate," stated Trump.

Back in 2016, Trump claimed that he did not know most of the people he was debating, since they were primarily politicians and not part of his social circle as a business tycoon. "But we had a great 4 years. We were very successful," he claimed, saying that he had "the best economy, rebuilt the military, had no wars, and defeated ISIS."
