Donald Trump says he thinks he can run for a third term by applying certain methods: 'I am not joking'

WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump revealed that he thinks he can run for a third term as the President of the United States and clarified that he was "not joking."
During an NBC interview on Sunday, March 30, Trump said that there were certain methods for doing so, even though seeking a third term is prohibited by the Constitution under the 22nd Amendment.

During the interview, Donald Trump told NBC's Kristen Welker, "You know, a lot of people would like me to do that. But, I mean, I basically tell them, we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration."
Welker then asked the POTUS, "Have you been presented with any potential plans that would allow you to serve a third term?"
The president responded, "There are plans. There are – not plans. There are, there are methods which you could do it, as you know."

Meanwhile, Welker put a hypothetical scenario where Vice President JD Vance would run for president in 2028, and if he wins, Vance would then pass the baton to Trump.
Trump said, "Well, that’s one scenario. But there are others too. There are others."
The NBC journalist said, "Sir, I’m hearing – you don’t sound like you’re joking. I’ve heard you joke about this a number of times."

Trump confirmed that he wasn't joking and said, "I’m not joking … But, I’m not – it is far too early to think about it."
Welker then threw a question asking if Trump wanted to serve a third term as the POTUS. To which he replied, "Well, I like working."
Interestingly, before his 2024 presidential election win, Trump dismissed the idea of running again in 2028.
He told Sharyl Attkisson in September 2024, "I think that will be — that will be it. I don’t see that at all."
Moreover, the 22nd Amendment of the Constitution states, "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice."

While referring to a plan to allow Trump to run in 2028, former White House strategist-turned-right-wing podcaster Steve Bannon said earlier this March, "We’re working on it. I think we’ll have a couple of alternatives, let’s say that. We’ll see what the definition of term limit is."
