WASHINGTON, DC: Former US President Donald Trump spoke on 'Fox & Friends' about his views on the selection of a new candidate for vice president. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), Senator JD Vance (R-OH) and Governor Doug Burgum (R-ND) are the three candidates widely believed to be in the race, though there may be issues with each of them.

Donald Trump says picking his potential running mates 'complicated'

During the debate, Trump was asked about the main obstacle keeping Rubio from winning - the 12th Amendment, which prohibits voters from electing a president and vice president from the same state. Although Trump could possibly get around this by moving to New York, it would still be a challenge.

Trump said, "It wasn't a deal-breaker, but it does make it more complicated. You know, you do that, and it makes it more complicated. There are people that don't have that complication."

Due to the almost complete abortion restriction he pushed through in his state, Burgum, who actually ran against Trump in the 2024 primaries, appeared to be unhappy with Trump.

Trump nominated the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v Wade but he repeatedly emphasized during the campaign that states should have the final say on abortion rights and that some of the restrictions imposed after the decision may be too strict. "It's a little bit of an issue," Trump said.

With regard to JD Vance, Trump was largely positive. He dismissed an earlier report that he was repulsed by the man's facial hair and praised him for his appearance as a "young Abraham Lincoln."

The former president has also considered delaying the announcement of his running mate until the convention, which begins next week. He said, "I'd love to do it during the convention. You know, in the old days, they did it during the convention, and it kept the convention very exciting, actually. So we'll see about that."

Internet grills Donald Trump over hangups with VP contenders

Several internet users blasted Donald Trump when he spoke about his views on the selection of a new candidate for vice president.

Some online comments read "What a load of rubbish lies coming from trump he knows who his VP pick is he's just milking the time on the subject to keep himself front and center in the media" and "I’m pretty sure Mr Lincoln didn’t wear makeup."

A user wrote, "He'll defer to a family member, Fail Son #2's wife, Laura" while one added, "Campaign needs to sharpen Harris's message and get her out there. Her background and experience has prepared her well to assume the office if need be."

A person also stated, "I actually didn't believe Rubio was a serious choice for FatBoy" whereas one mentioned, "My guess is Heritage hasn't told him who his VP is going to be yet."
