APULIA, ITALY: Former President Donald Trump has ignited controversy by alleging that Pope Francis was "freaking out" during his recent meeting with President Joe Biden, as reported by Newsweek.

Trump's claims have sparked widespread backlash on social media, as many users defended the warm interaction between Biden and the Pope, highlighting the deep bond shared by the two leaders.

Donald Trump presents different narrative for Pope Francis and Joe Biden's meeting

On Friday, June 14, a video captured the Pope greeting Biden and other world leaders at the Group of Seven summit in Italy. The footage showed a heartwarming moment where Biden bent down to speak to the Pope, with their foreheads touching briefly.

However, Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election, took to his Truth Social platform to present a different narrative.

Trump shared an image of Biden and the Pope in close proximity, their foreheads nearly touching. Accompanying the photo, he commented, "Look at the Pope—He's freaking out! This can't be normal, can it?"

The White House later released a readout of Biden's meeting with the Pope, stating that the President had expressed gratitude for the Vatican's efforts in addressing the humanitarian crisis caused by Russia's aggression in Ukraine.

Biden also reaffirmed his appreciation for the Pope’s advocacy for the poor, persecuted, and those suffering from the impacts of climate change and conflict worldwide.

Trump's comments come on the heels of his recent suggestion that Biden, who is 81, should undergo a cognitive test, similar to the one Trump took during his presidency.

Speaking at the Turning Point Action convention in Detroit, Trump said, "He doesn't even know what the word 'inflation' means. I think he should take a cognitive test like I did."

During his remarks, Trump incorrectly named his former White House doctor as "Ronny Johnson" instead of Ronny Jackson. The Biden campaign swiftly took to social media to point out this error.

Jackson has been a staunch supporter of the former president and has often defended Trump's health and cognitive abilities. His endorsement of Trump as "the healthiest president" in history has been a point of contention, especially among Trump's critics.

While another remarked, "Why wouldn't it? Unlike you, President Biden has a good relationship with the Pope. The Pope doesn't care much about you."

A third user wrote, "President Biden is actually a religious man and attends services every week! He doesn’t go around lying about his faith like you and therefore you don’t understand a touching moment, because you’re a selfish, crass jackass, a fraud." Another user mentioned, "You wouldn’t know anything about being around righteousness!"

One user posted, "Your jealousy is oozing from your nasty tweets. You’re such a loser, Donald!" A sixth user commented, "They have a friendship that goes beyond politics, there is nothing abnormal about this picture or behavior."
