WASHINGTON, DC: Former president Donald Trump harshly criticized President Joe Biden's Oval Office address regarding his departure from the 2024 presidential race.

Trump accused the Democrats of brutally orchestrating a coup to force Biden out of the race.

Donald Trump alleges Democrats didn't want Joe Biden to run for reelection

Donald Trump claimed that Joe Biden's exit was engineered by prominent Democrats who believed he couldn't win.

"I think it was a coup. They didn't want him running. He was way down in the polls, and they thought he was going to lose," Trump said in an interview on Fox News.

He added that the Democratic Party leaders, including Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama, played a significant role in convincing Biden to withdraw, besides "some others that you see on television. It was interesting," he said.

"I'd watch them on television and they act so nice. ‘Oh, yes, we loved you. We loved you behind the scenes.’ I know for a fact they were brutal," Trump said during the interview.

"They went to him and they said, you can't win the race, which I think is true, unless I did something very foolish, which I wasn't going to do, and I think he was so far down and they said, 'You're not going to win, and you're not in great shape, and you did poorly in the debate.' I think the debate started everything," Trump continued.

Joe Biden passes the torch to Kamala Harris

Joe Biden addressed the nation on Wednesday, May 24, expressing his decision to pass the leadership to a new generation, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic Party's nomination.

"I decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. It's the best way to unite our nation. You know, there is a time and a place for long years of experience in public life," Biden said.

"There's also a time and place for new voices, fresh voices, yes, younger voices. And that time and place is now," Biden added.

The speech, which lasted 11 minutes, saw Biden reflecting on his political career while explaining his decision to step aside.

Family members, including First Lady Jill Biden, daughter Ashley Biden, and son Hunter Biden, were present during the address.

Donald Trump says Joe Biden's speech was phony and he had problems

Donald Trump did not hold back in his criticism of Joe Biden's speech. "It was like a terrible speech and terrible delivery," Trump remarked.

"He looked like he was having problems, and yet you watch the other networks and you would think he was Ronald Reagan in his prime, Winston Churchill in his prime, and he wasn't. It was not good… It was not a good speech," he added.

Trump continued to criticize the media's portrayal of Biden's address, calling it "phony." "It's so phony what's going on," he said, adding "The press is so – it's so fake. Anybody can see it was a problem."

Internet reacts to Donald Trump's criticism of Joe Biden's speech

Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race via an X post on Sunday, July 21, while in self-isolation in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, following Covid-19 diagnosis.

He returned to the White House after testing negative for the virus on Tuesday, July 23.

Online reactions to Biden's sudden exit were mixed, with some agreeing it was unexpected while others viewed it as sudden and clearly a coup given his unrelenting attitude to the drop out calls to the end.

"Have to agree it was quite sudden," one user wrote on X. Another commented, "Because it was clearly a coup."

Others pointed out the irony in Republican reactions, highlighting their dilemma if they wanted Biden to stay in the race.

"Republicans: Biden should not run for reelection.

Also Republicans: OMG WHY DID HE DROP OUT, ITS A COUP," noted another user.

"Trump doesn't slam anything. But trump is going to get slammed this November! HARRIS 2024!!" wrote one more.

"I think it's funny that Trump used the word "coup" as that is exactly what he attempted the 2020 last election when he lost. Does everyone remember that? I do," wrote one.
