LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Former President Donald Trump endorsed Army veteran Sam Brown for Nevada's Republican Senate primary.

In a Truth Social post on Sunday, June 9, the GOP presidential candidate announced his endorsement for Brown over his primary rival, Jeffrey Gunter, who was the US ambassador to Iceland under the Trump administration, as per ABC News.

"Sam Brown is a fearless American patriot, a Purple Heart Recipient, who has proven he has the pure grit and courage to take on our Enemies, both Foreign and Domestic," the 45th president wrote on his social media platform after a blistering outdoor rally in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Trump had been praising both Senate hopefuls for months but he had not endorsed anyone in the competitive GOP primary in the key battleground state until yesterday.

Donald Trump touts Sam Brown on border and economy

Trump pushed for Brown in the GOP primary race, claiming Brown knows that "Crooked Joe Biden and the Radical Left are a threat to democracy".

"As your next Senator, Sam will fight tirelessly to secure our Border, end Migrant Crime, stop Inflation, grow our Economy, strongly support our great military/vets, protect our always under siege Second Amendment, and restore peace through strength...." Trump added.

The MAGA spearhead also emphasized the wounds of the Senate candidate that he suffered during his army service as proof of his love for the US, adding, "Sam Brown has my Complete and Total Endorsement - He will never let you down!"

Brown thanked the former president's endorsement through an X (formerly Twitter) post, deeming the support an honor. He wrote that he would work for America and Nevada's "better future" with Trump after their victory in November.

Brown, who survived third-degree burns from an explosive device while serving the army during the Afghanistan war in 2008, was present at a Las Vegas rally where Trump promised to eliminate taxes on income from tips and doubled down on his defense of the Jan 6 defendants, calling them "warriors".

The Senate hopeful was seen distributing water bottles to the attendees in the sweltering temperature. His primary opponent, Gunter, was also at the rally, vying for the former president's endorsement.

Brown will face Democratic Sen Jacky Rosen in the November election if he wins the GOP primary on June 11.

Internet reacts to Donald Trump endorsing Sam Brown

While some social media users criticized the ex-president's support for Brown over Gunter, another group welcomed the endorsement, noting the former was the safest choice.

A user argued, "Horrendous. Scam Brown is a terrible candidate. I trust President Trump. I get it, endorsements of someone leading in the polls is a safe move prior to an election. However, @DrJeffGunter is clearly the America First candidate in this race and candidates like him are hard to find. Safe or not, he deserved this endorsement."

While, another said, "How are people upset about this?! Gunter would probably lose this seat by 10+."

"LaCivitica behind this? Who is giving Trump bad endorsements. Someone is sabotaging Trump from making America First endorsements," wrote a third user.

On the other hand, a fourth response read, "That's not his generic endorsement. Trump understands Sam Brown persevering through difficult times can strengthen a man's resolve."

Someone else pointed out, "Great, Trump. Endorse the guy that McConnell endorses. How about listening to what the People of NV want? Sam didn’t even bother to show up for the debates. Sad."

"Many people want a MAGA candidate even myself it but the problem is nevada is a swing state, so i think sam brown is the safer electoral choice he's more electable and i believe the moderate and independent voters will vote for him in the november general election," an individual wrote.

A remark read, "These last few weeks prove that Trump learned from his failed endorsements in 2022. Rather than choosing insane candidates who worship him, he has been a lot more pragmatic. While Trump at the top is still a wild card, down-ticket races will almost certainly outperform him."

Meanwhile, another said, "Lol at The clowns on here shocked that Trump backs RINO after RINO. This is who he is. His judgment is terrible. Y’all deserve the overgrown swamp you asked for that comes with Trump."
