Speaking from the White House Rose Garden, the MAGA spearhead declared, "My fellow Americans, this is Liberation Day," asserting that the new tariffs would free the US from reliance on foreign goods.

He added, "April 2, 2025, will forever be remembered as the day American industry was reborn, the day America's destiny was reclaimed, and the day that we began to make America wealthy again."

The new measures, which Trump called "historic," include a minimum 10% baseline tariff on all trading partners, with additional, more targeted penalties for certain countries, including China, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea.

The POTUS explained, "We will charge them approximately half of what they are and have been charging us, because we are being very kind."

He clarified, "This is not full reciprocal. This is kind reciprocal," as per CBS News. Holding up a chart listing the nations and their respective tariffs, Trump framed trade deficits as a "national emergency" and claimed that his actions would usher in "the golden age of America."

"In short, chronic trade deficits are no longer merely an economic problem. They're a national emergency that threatens our security and our very way of life. It's a very great threat to our country," the 78-year-old said, stressing that it posed a significant threat to the country.
