ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Former President Donald Trump threatened his successor, Joe Biden, could face a felony conviction soon after exiting the White House. This indicates Trump is likely to go after his political rival if he succeeds in winning the 2024 election this November.

In a heated first presidential debate hosted by CNN in Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday, June 27, the 45th president said the incumbent "could be a convicted felon as soon as he gets out of office".

The warning came after President Biden called Trump a "convicted felon" in light of his guilty verdict in May in the New York hush-money trial.

However, the real estate mogul defended himself, bringing up first son Hunter Biden's recent guilty verdict in the federal gun charges in Delaware for illegally purchasing a firearm in 2018 by lying about his drug addiction.

"When he talks about a convicted felon, his son is a convicted felon at a very high level," Trump said about Hunter Biden.

"His son is convicted, going to be convicted probably numerous other times, should have been convicted before. But his Justice Department let the statute of limitations lapse on the most important things," Trump said.

Taking aim at President Biden, Trump warned he could face charges as soon as he was out of office.

"But he could be a convicted felon as soon as he gets out of office – Joe could be a convicted felon with all of the things that he's done. He's done horrible things," Trump cautioned.

"All of the deaths caused at the border, telling the Ukrainian people that we're going to want $1 billion, you could change the prosecutor, otherwise you're not getting $1 billion."

The MAGA spearhead's threat on the debate stage stemmed from remarks President Biden made while he was the vice president under Barack Obama's administration. The octogenarian had previously admitted that he successfully compelled Ukraine to dismiss prosecutor Viktor Shokin, who was then investigating Burisma Holdings, where Hunter was a board member, as per Fox News.

The then-vice president succeeded in pressuring Ukraine by leveraging the threat of withholding $1 billion in US aid unless the prosecutor was fired.

"If I ever said that, that's quid pro quo, that we're not going to do anything. We're not going to give you $1 billion unless you change your prosecutor having to do with his son," Trump said during the debate before labeling President Biden "a criminal".

Trump said about his own legal battles, "I did nothing wrong. We have a system that was rigged and disgusting. I did nothing wrong."

Besides the hush money conviction, the former president faces three other indictments over his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 elections in Georgia and Washington DC and a classified document case in Florida.
