ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA: Former president Donald Trump recently delivered an economic policy speech during a rally in North Carolina on August 14, which quickly veered off course into a lengthy and disjointed rant, drawing widespread ridicule from online commentators.

During the rally, Trump set out to address the state of the economy, a topic he deemed vital. However, his speech soon turned into what many described as a "word salad," as per OK! Magazine.

Trump remarked, "We’re talking about a thing called the economy. They wanted me to do a speech on the economy. A lot of people are very devastated by what’s happened with inflation and all of the other things. So we’re doing this as an intellectual speech. You are all intellectuals today. Today we’re doing it, and we’re doing it right now, and it’s very important."

He continued, "They say it’s the most important subject. I think crime is right there; I think the border is right there, personally. We have a lot of important subjects because our country has become a third-world nation."

"We’re a banana republic in so many ways, and we’re not going to let that happen because we’re starting a freefall. But from today and the day I take the oath of office, we will rapidly drive prices down and make America great again," he added.

His speech clip, shared by independent journalist Aaron Rupar on X (formerly Twitter), elicited a mocking response from Rupar: "holy word salad Batman."

Trump’s speech, characterized by many as a rambling discourse, was not his first recent foray into what critics dubbed a "word salad."

Earlier, during a Q&A session, a supporter inquired about his plans to address soaring rent prices.

Trump responded, "We’re going to drill, baby, drill. We’re gonna bring down the cost of energy. Energy’s what caused the worst inflation, I think, in the history of our country. Food prices are up 50 percent, sometimes more."

This comment sparked further scrutiny over Trump’s cognitive capabilities, especially in light of President Joe Biden's decision to drop out of the presidential race in favor of endorsing Kamala Harris.

Trump's age and cognitive sharpness have been under the spotlight, leading him to advocate for mandatory cognitive exams for candidates seeking higher office, according to The New Republic.

This push gained momentum after special counsel Robert Hur released a comprehensive report on Biden’s mental acuity, labeling him as having "significant limitations."

Another added, "Lots and lots of words that mean absolutely nothing. Nadda." A comment read, "Trump’s campaign has died. This is essentially a weekend at Bernie’s scenario. They are trying to drag him to election day."

One individual said, "He goes off teleprompter for 45 seconds and speaks lots of words. The best, most beautiful words possibly anyone has ever spoken in history. Many people have told him he speaks the best words. Lots of words that mean absolutely nothing in his brain of scrambled eggs."
