BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA: 21-years-old Angel Reese, the LSU basketball star known as the Bayou Barbie, has formally declared for the WNBA draft. This comes after two days when Tigers’ season ended with a loss to Caitlin Clark and Iowa in the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament.

The LSU team including Reese garnered a wide criticism for missing the national anthem ahead of match.

The 21-year-old forward, who shared her decision in an exclusive to Vogue published on Wednesday, April 3 and paired with a glossy photo shoot, will forgo her senior season at the Baton Rouge school to make the leap into the professional ranks along with Caitlin Clark, who declared for the draft in February.

Reese claimed that Serena Williams' 2022 retirement in a similar style served as inspiration for her decision to make her plans public through the fashion bible. Reese admitted that she had decided to become a professional before March Madness started.

She said, "Of course, I like to do everything big,” adding “I didn’t want anything to be basic.”

“I’ve done everything I wanted to in college,” Reese added. “I’ve won a national championship, I’ve gotten [Southeastern Conference] Player of the Year, I’ve been an All-American. My ultimate goal is to be a pro  and to be one of the greatest basketball players to play, ever. I feel like I’m ready.”

Reese is expected to be chosen in the draft's first round, which takes place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on April 15. After she switched to LSU in 2022, Reese's first season there saw the Tigers win their lone national championship. She was voted the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA tournament the previous year after guiding the Tigers over Iowa in the championship game. She was a two-time member of the All-American first team.

LSU basketball team received huge criticism after their absence at the playing of the national anthem before Monday’s NCAA Elite Eight tournament game against Iowa.
