'Dr Phil is a savior': Dr Oz given career lifeline with comeback on new network after failed Senate run
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dr Phil McGraw is offering Dr Mehmet Oz a vital career lifeline by inviting him to be a cornerstone anchor on his upcoming 24-hour network.
The 63-year-old Emmy-winning TV host made an attempt to translate his fame from daytime shows to politics in 2022, but he lost to John Fetterman in his bid to represent Pennsylvania in the US Senate.
Dr Phil is trying to bring the embattled Republican back
The National Enquirer has reported that insiders say Dr Phil is trying to bring the embattled Republican back to life on television.
The insider said, "Since his failed attempt to run for the Senate, Dr Oz's career has never bounced back. He has taken lots of meetings but received no firm offers — which is why Dr Phil is a savior."
The insider continued, "He thinks Oz will be a great fit" at the new network — and the former senate candidate is said to be "eternally grateful to Phil and won't let him down."
After his dismal senatorial campaign, sources said in November 2022 that "no one in the mainstream will touch him".
According to an insider, "When things were looking grim early on in the senate race, Oz’s camp quietly sounded out some television executives about what a career might look like if he were to lose. They were told, ‘Fuhgeddaboudit!’"
The source noted, "You can’t alienate half of your audience with a political stance and expect to bring in an audience on your return to television."
Dr Phil's new media endeavor might provide Dr Oz a platform
Dr Phil's new media endeavor might provide Dr Oz with a platform that appeals to his now-divided fan base, as reported by RadarOnline.
According to Deadline, Christian-based network Trinity Broadcasting recently declared that it would be collaborating with Dr Phil as a distribution partner for his upcoming cable TV network, Merit Street Media. The current date of debut for Merit Street Media is February 26, 2024.
Over 65 million households will have access to Merit Street Media via Dish and DirecTV, and there are plans to grow the brand to include social media, podcasts, and on-demand television.
'Dr Phil Primetime', the veteran daytime TV host's evening program, will serve as the network's centerpiece. Merit Street Media reports that the network will offer four hours of unique programming, which will include a live newscast.
