Drake starts feud with Childish Gambino, labels his hit 'This is America' ‘overrated and over-awarded’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Drake kicked off his 'It's All a Blur' tour with a bold move, taking a shot at Childish Gambino.
The feud stems from Gambino's revelation that his Grammy-winning track 'This Is America' was initially conceived as a diss against Drake before transforming into a protest anthem.
Drake fires shots at Childish Gambino
During the opening night in Chicago's United Center, Drake projected a message on the side of the stage that read, "The overrated and over-awarded hit song ‘This Is America’ was originally a Drake diss record."
The move was a clear response to Gambino's earlier acknowledgment.
The strategic caption appeared as Drake performed his 2011 hit 'Headlines', a track that emphasizes his constant presence in the news.

The tour's first night featured other highlights, including a performance by 21 Savage and the debut of holograms featuring Drake and the late Virgil Abloh. However, the evening also saw an unexpected incident when Drake was hit by a thrown cell phone.
Drizzy paid tribute to the late Virgil Abloh with a statue on the first night of the It's All A Blur Tour.
“Please make some noise for one of the most important people I’ve met in this industry,” he said in tribute to the late designer on stage. “Make some noise for one of the greatest minds that we’ve ever seen.”
He added, “Our brother, our family, he goes by the name of Virgil Abloh. Let’s pay some respect.”
Childish Gambino's revelation about 'This Is America'
In a candid revelation to GQ, Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) shared the surprising origin of his hit song 'This Is America'. Gambino explained that the song, which eventually became a cultural phenomenon, began as a joke and a diss track aimed at Drake.
Glover had the idea for the song three years before its release and initially pitched it to director Hiro Murai. Glover admitted, "It started as a Drake diss, to be honest, as like a funny way of doing it." However, as they explored the idea further, Glover realized the potential of the track and decided to develop it into something more substantial.
"This Is America" eventually topped the Billboard Hot 100 in May 2018 and achieved 3x platinum status.
Drake's recent on-stage response during the "It's All a Blur" tour opener suggests that the feud is far from over.
