In one of the recently released photos, Johnson can be seen sitting in the corner of the ring without his tattoos and head full of hair.

The 52-year-old flew to Cannes last week to meet with potential buyers about the UFC story.

Johnson earlier talked with Variety about 'The Smashing Machine. He said, “Benny wants to create, and continues to push the envelope when it comes to stories that are raw and real, characters that are authentic and at times uncomfortable and arresting. I’m at a point in my career where I want to push myself in ways that I’ve not pushed myself in the past."

"I’m at a point in my career where I want to make films that matter, that explore a humanity and explore struggle [and] pain,” he said.

The flick will explore different aspects of Kerr’s life, including his struggle with addiction, winning matches, love, and friendship around 2000.

‘The Smashing Machine’ also features Emily Blunt, playing Dawn Staples, the wife of the MMA star, reports Deadline.

The filmmaker Safdie has come together with A24 after the success of 'Uncut Gems.' He has also written the script for ‘The Smashing Machine.’

"'The Smashing Machine' is a story based on true events surrounding Kerr's life and his rise through the MMA world which was unfortunately derailed by his opioid addiction," according to the movie's synopsis.

Kerr, during his MMA career, bagged UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion twice. He was also the World Vale Tudo Championship tournament winner along with other wins, including 1992 NCAA National Wrestling Champion, Pride FC Heavyweight Champion, 1994 National Freestyle Champion, and four-time ADCC World Submission Champion.
