Elon Musk says he’s sleeping in DOGE office despite being offered a stay at White House’s Lincoln Bedroom
WASHINGTON, DC: Elon Musk, who was appointed as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, reportedly told many people that he’s been sleeping at the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE headquarters in Washington, DC.
Notably, the DOGE office is housed inside the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is roughly four minutes from the West Wing on foot, per Daily News.
Elon Musk says he’s sleeping at DOGE office
Elon Musk is showing his commitment to the administration by spending his nights at the DOGE office. The tech billionaire told his friends during a black tie event last week that he had been invited to sleep in the Lincoln Bedroom inside the White House itself, according to Wired.
This perhaps shows how involved he is in the Trump administration. The multi-billionaire became close to President Donald Trump after spending more than $250 million to help get the Republican leader reelected.
Before Trump’s inauguration last week, Musk reportedly took up residency in a $2,000-a-day cottage at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate before following him to the nation’s capital, per the outlet.
Even though Musk could afford his apartment in Washington, the Space X founder has a history of sleeping where he works. During busy times at Tesla, Musk used to sleep on the factory floor.
He said during an interview with Ron Baron in 2022, "It was my primary residence. This is important because if the team thinks their leader is off somewhere having a good time, drinking Mai Tais on a tropical island, which I definitely could have been doing … since the team could see me sleeping on the floor during shift change, they knew I was there, and that made a huge difference, they gave it their all."
Notably, Musk and tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy were chosen in November 2024 to co-lead DOGE as an unofficial agency designed to slash government spending.
Vivek Ramaswamy clears air around rumors that Elon Musk fired him
Vivek Ramaswamy opened up about his sudden exit from the DOGE, the newly formed department under the Donald Trump administration. The tech entrepreneur was supposed to run the department with Elon Musk.
In an interview with Fox News' Jesse Watters, Ramaswamy hinted at a potential candidacy for state government, as it is anticipated that he will declare his intention to run for governor of Ohio.
Watters questioned Ramaswamy on what exactly happened, adding that he was quitting DOGE "after like three Scaramuccis", as it was earlier reported that Musk wanted him to leave.
Trump's White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci's incredibly brief 11-day term serves as the basis for the unit of measurement known as “Scaramuccis".
The entrepreneur answered, "Well, the reality is, I'm pursuing an elected office very shortly. We will have an announcement soon."
When asked about the reports that he and Musk were not getting along, Ramaswamy responded, "I think that's incorrect, but what I would say is, we had different and complementary approaches."
Furthermore, Watters directly questioned Ramaswamy on whether Musk had fired him, Ramaswamy answered, "It's - no, we had a mutual discussion and I think I wish him well."
He went on to explain that he was focused on a "legislative-based approach", while Musk was more leaned towards a "technology approach". He called Musk the best person to lead that technology.
