Elon Musk slams Ben Stiller with 'Tropic Thunder' slur after actor says 'woke America' killed edgy comedy
AUSTIN, TEXAS: Recently, on social media, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk responded sharply to actor Ben Stiller following Stiller's contentious remarks regarding the state of contemporary American comedy.
Stiller, famed for his performances in comedies such as 'Zoolander' and 'Meet the Parents', has offered his perspective on the current debate regarding the impact of "woke" culture on the entertainment industry.
Elon Musk criticizes Ben Stiller's 'woke' remarks on edgy comedy
“Damn he went full r****d 🤣🤣,” the Tesla CEO captioned a repost of a fan's post on X, criticizing Stiller for his remarks on Wednesday, November 27.
The screenshot shared by Musk displayed the Daily Mail headline, "Ben Stiller says woke America killed 'edgier' comedy," accompanied by a picture of the actor from the 2008 movie.
Musk, who has been seen with president-elect Donald Trump recently, shared a "Tropic Thunder" clip on X where the characters played by Stiller and Robert Downey Jr use the R-word in a conversation, Page Six reported.
Acting as his other character, Jack, Stiller's character describes how he feels "r****d" in the scene from the movie.
Downey’s character then advises his friend to “never go full r****d” after he had already gone "full r****d."
Musk's comments followed Stiller's interview with Collider, where he described the production of the film as a "dicey" decision.
Regarding the film's production in the current environment, the 'Zoolander' star stated, "I doubt it. Obviously, in this environment, edgier comedy is just harder to do.”
He added, “Definitely not at the scale we made it at, too, in terms of the economics of the business.”

Ben Stiller credits Steven Spielberg for 'Tropic Thunder's success
Ben Stiller subsequently acknowledged director Steven Spielberg as a crucial factor in the production of the film 16 years earlier.
“I think even at the time we were fortunate to get it made, and I credit that, actually, to Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks,” he went on to say. “He read it and was like, ‘Alright, let’s make this thing.’ It’s a very inside movie when you think about it.”
The father of two subsequently spoke about Downey's character's use of blackface in the film, which had sparked controversy at the time. “But yeah, the idea of Robert playing that character who’s playing an African American character, I mean, incredibly dicey,” Stiller said. “Even at the time, of course, it was dicey too.”
Stiller wrapped up his remarks on 'Tropic Thunder' by detailing the main reason he decided to undertake the project.
“The only reason we attempted it was I felt like the joke was very clear in terms of who that joke was on — actors trying to do anything to win awards,” he said. “But now, in this environment, I don’t even know if I would have ventured to do it, to tell you the truth. I’m being honest.”
