WASHINGTON, DC: Inauguration Day 2025 came with several bizarre moments, questionable fashion choices, and MAGA fans partying like it’s 2016.

But while most of the crowd was basking in the Trumpian glow, one person seemed to be struggling to keep the spotlight on himself: Elon Musk. The tech mogul-turned-political wildcard later found himself caught up in some rather awkward post-inauguration drama —and it all seems to revolve around Donald Trump’s golden child, Ivanka Trump.

Elon Musk's strange shout-out to Ivanka Trump stirs controversy

Elon Musk’s involvement in Donald Trump’s campaign was the kind of plot twist no one saw coming. On the campaign trail, the tech mogul proved his worth — so much so that people started speculating he might be edging out Vice President JD Vance as the MAGA sperhead's new favorite.

But now the tables seem to have turned. During Trump’s swearing-in ceremony, Musk appeared to get a cold shoulder from the newly re-crowned president. Instead of basking in the spotlight, the Tesla CEO was left out in the cold—and it's possible he did not take it well.

In what might go down as one of his most bizarre posts yet, Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to send a message to Ivanka. "Making fashion beautiful again," he wrote, praising her look for the Commander-In-Chief Ball.

On the surface, it seems harmless enough—a playful nod to her father's "Make America Great Again" slogan—but context is everything.

According to Nicki Swift, it’s the choice of the word "beautiful" that’s making people squirm.

Musk does have a way with words, and if he was just talking about Ivanka’s style, he could’ve gone with something a little less loaded like "elegant" or "refined." Instead, his use of "beautiful" feels like it’s tiptoeing into flirt territory.

The netizens were quick to share their thoughts on Musk's bold move, with one writing, "Something cooking!"

"@elonmusk you flirting with Jared’s wife?" another asked, referring to Ivanka's husband, Jared Kushner.

"Something brewing up ivanka and elon love affair??" someone else wondered.

"You’re definitely sleeping outside tonight," an individual quipped, with one more writing, "Keep it up. Play all games necessary."

Another person questioned, "Yo Musk since when you care about fashion?"

Ivanka, for her part, kept it classy. Instead of feeding into the drama, she reshared the post with a simple white heart emoji.

Ivanka and Donald Trump's bond as Elon Musk steps into the spotlight

Ivanka and Donald Trump haven’t exactly been on the best terms lately. After stepping away from politics following his first term, Ivanka has kept a low profile and chose to focus on her family life in Miami. She even admitted that she was "miserable" during his first presidency.

That said, Musk is still holding onto his newly minted title as the head of Trump’s self-created Department of Government Efficiency—for now. But let’s not forget Trump’s love of the phrase "You’re fired!"—Musk might want to tread carefully.

His co-chair Vivek Ramaswamy already jumped ship after clashing with him, and Musk’s penchant for stirring the pot could land him in hot water with Trump if he’s not careful.

As for Ivanka, don’t expect her to dive back into politics anytime soon. According to her close friend Maggie Cordish, Ivanka is "done with politics" and wants to focus on her family. Having said that, she’s still a trusted voice in her dad’s inner circle—just in a more informal, behind-the-scenes way.

"Ivanka Trump is done with politics and says she isn't coming back," Cordish told CNN. "She's still his daughter and a trusted voice, so in that sense an informal adviser, as we all are with our family members."
