Elon Musk's absence at Super Bowl LIX raises eyebrows as Trump and other A-List celebs fill the stands
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA: Donald Trump made history as the first sitting US president to attend a Super Bowl as he walked into the Caesars Superdome to resounding cheers Sunday night, February 9.
With a star-studded entourage—including his children Ivanka and Eric Trump, as well as Eric’s wife Lara—Trump was ready for a memorable night of football.
But someone was notably missing—his billionaire pal Elon Musk.
Where was Elon Musk?
The billionaire tech mogul and X.com owner has been one of Donald Trump’s most high-profile allies in recent months. And given Elon Musk’s love for football (he attended the last two Super Bowls, including last year’s Chiefs vs 49ers game with his son X AE A-Xii, his absence raised some serious eyebrows.
It's worth noting that Musk has never been one to shy away from public appearances, especially when it comes to events as massive as the Super Bowl. He was spotted at the Eagles vs Chiefs matchup in 2023. He was there again the following year, making headlines by bringing his son to the big game, Radar Online noted.
But this time he was nowhere to be seen. Not only was Musk missing from the Super Bowl, but he also never mentioned it on X.
Naturally, this led to speculation. Was something up between Trump and Musk? Was the billionaire busy with business dealings? Or maybe he was just trying to skip the chaos that comes with being alongside the President in such a public setting.
Elon Musk may have been dealing with Kanye West drama
As it turns out, Elon Musk might have had his hands full—not with football, but with yet another Kanye West controversy. While Donald Trump was busy greeting fans at the Superdome, Musk was reportedly dealing with Kanye’s latest social media meltdown.
In yet another wild and unhinged series of posts, the rapper went off on a hate-filled tirade—one that included antisemitic, misogynistic, and racist remarks, as well as a bizarre jab at Taylor Swift right in the middle of the Super Bowl.
The backlash was instant. Musk—who has had a complicated relationship with Kanye—finally pulled the plug on Ye’s X account.
"Given what he has posted, his account is now classified as NSFW. You should not be seeing that anymore," Musk announced.

Just like that, Kanye was banned from X—again. A quick search for Ye’s account now brings up a "This account doesn’t exist" message, confirming that Musk wasn’t messing around.
Kanye, however, appeared to take it in stride. For his final tweet of the night, he posted: "I'm logging out of Twitter. I appreciate Elon for allowing me to vent."
He even compared the experience to an Ayahuasca trip: "It has been very cathartic to use the world as a sounding board. It was like an Ayahuasca trip. Love all of you who gave me the energy and attention. To (sic) we connect again. Good afternoon and goodnight."
Donald Trump backs Elon Musk
Even though Elon Musk was MIA from the big game, Donald Trump had nothing but praise for his billionaire buddy.
During an interview with Fox News that aired on Super Bowl Sunday, Trump defended Musk and his new role in government.
For those not in the know, Trump tapped Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—a new entity focused on cutting federal spending. "I've had a great help with Elon Musk, who's been terrific," Trump told Fox’s Bret Baier.
But not everyone is thrilled about Musk’s government access. In fact, the SpaceX CEO has reportedly been granted almost unrestricted access to federal departments and information, including Social Security and bank account data. This led to a massive legal battle, with 19 Democratic attorneys general filing a lawsuit to block Musk’s access.
Over the weekend, a federal judge temporarily halted Musk’s involvement with the Treasury Department, citing concerns over "irreparable harm."
Trump wasn’t happy about it. "I disagree with it 100%," he said. "I think it's crazy. And we have to solve the efficiency problem," Trump stated.
When asked if he trusts Musk to handle such massive responsibilities, Trump doubled down: "Trust Elon? Oh, he's not gaining anything. In fact, I wonder how he can devote the time to it. He's so into it."
