LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Emma Stone suffered an unfortunate accident before her wedding to Dave McCary. The 35-year-old Golden Globe Award winner disclosed on her latest episode of the 'SmartLess' podcast with hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett that she sustained an unexpected injury in the days leading up to her marriage.

“The week that I got married, I did open a refrigerator and the handle broke off and I got a black eye,” the 'La La Land' star revealed according to People. “And that’s where it stops,” she said with a laugh before agreeing with Hayes' comment that the injury-prone actress “needs a helmet.” "I need a helmet and extensive therapy," she joked.

However, McCary did announce their engagement in December 2019 with a photo of the couple and Stone’s ring, a pearl set in a diamond halo. The 38-year-old proposed to Stone just over two years after their relationship in late October 2017. At the time, it was reported that the couple had been dating for three months.

The pair originally planned to wed in March 2020 but postponed their nuptials due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

When did Emma Stone and Dave McCary first meet?

The comedy power couple met when she hosted 'SNL' in late 2016, her third of five stints as a host. "She is professional in every way, very talented and focused on her work, and Dave respects that,” an industry source told the outlet in December 2019.

“He totally supports her, and is unselfish in his desire for her success. Those are great qualities in a man for someone like Emma,” the insider said at the time, adding “She is impressed by his talent and respects him immensely.” The source also noted that both Stone and McCary let each other shine in their respective careers.

"Two highly successful people in the entertainment business don’t always give the other the space they need,” they told People, adding “But he encourages her, and she loves that.”

The power couple made their award show debut in January 2019 at the SAG Awards, and McCary has since supported Stone during many career milestones. In March 2021, the duo expanded their family as they welcomed a baby girl, Louise Jean, a source confirmed to the outlet at the time.

Days after Louise Jean was born, a source said the actress was thrilled to be a mother, explaining, "Emma has been very excited about the baby. She has been private but said that she was feeling great. She always has a huge smile when she is with Dave."
