WASHINGTON, DC: In a dramatic conclusion to jury selection that saw one potential juror cry and leave the court and others criticizing the former president as he sat calmly at the defense table, opening arguments in Donald Trump's hush money trial are scheduled to begin on Monday, April 22, according to the New York Post.

Justice Juan Merchan said at the end of a grueling day in court on Friday, April 22, "This case is going to trial Monday morning." To complete a jury panel consisting of 12 jurors and six alternates, the remaining five Manhattanites were chosen to determine whether Trump had improperly concealed a payment to a porn star before the 2016 election.

Notably, the last five alternates chosen included an Upper East Side project manager for a construction business who claimed she would 'do whatever my kids want me to do in my spare time' and a handyman who pledged to fix the courtroom microphone if it started acting up at any point during the trial.

However, Trump did not appear to be having fun as the jurors underwent several screening phases. After an outburst against the case and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to reporters in the corridor, he seemed to nod asleep for a short while at least twice. Each time, he slumped in his chair, closed his eyes, and remained still for about 30 seconds.

Even when a person set himself on fire outside the courthouse right before the final jurors were chosen before the midday lunch break, the trial continued uninterrupted. Inside the overflow courtroom, sirens sounded, but afternoon business went on as if nothing had occurred.

Moreover, Trump attempted to get up just before the trial's day's end, but the court was still officially in session, so he was forced to sit down. Judge Merchan told him, "Sir, please have a seat."

Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's criminal trial to begin on April 15, which would make it the first criminal prosecution of a former American president. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 election. After complying, Trump flashed his attorneys a mocking glance. At the defense table, Trump likewise sat in a navy blue suit and remained silent when some potential jurors confronted him with criticism.

A female juror highlighted remarks she felt were homophobic and 'different race comments that they would kind of cite to President Trump' to support her claim that Trump's supporters 'can feel enabled by his rhetoric.'

The juror added, "To be honest, this is a little embarrassing. I’m not even sure what Trump’s policies are." She was removed from the lawsuit by Judge Merchan for cause.
